Chapter 37 Birds Eating Sheep
Chapter 37 Birds Eating Sheep
The Black Goat had sturdy fenders and a thick deck.
The moment Henry stepped on it, he felt a sense of security wash over him, as if he were walking on solid ground.
This was once his home, and the legacy he should have inherited.
But Henry never missed the place, nor was he obsessed with reclaiming the inheritance.
He simply sailed, fought, and slaughtered as the natural course of things unfolded.
Henry believed that his return to this place was due to the guidance of the sea god and the workings of fate.
The seagulls are armed and engaged in a fierce battle with the pirates of the Black Goat.
Although their morale wasn't high, they were fearless at this moment.
The departure of the Soaring Ship meant that the retreat route had been cut off. If the enemy in front of them was not killed, they would be the ones to die.
The fire on the deck was still quite large, but it had been extinguished by half compared to before.
If it weren't for the sudden appearance of the loyal dog, the Black Goat would probably be engulfed in flames by now.
Henry looked into the flames reflected in the enemy's eyes and saw fear in them.
They were afraid too, Henry laughed.
Just as the crew of the Soaring were afraid of the giant arrows, the pirates on the Black Goat were also terrified of the arrows that could burn and explode!
Perhaps there's a chance...
Henry gripped his axe tightly and charged toward an enemy.
Using this magical axe, he easily cleaved a terrifying gash in the back of his enemy.
Then another pirate came up to him, attempting to challenge him.
However, this man's martial arts skills were no better than Henry's, and his weapon was far inferior to Henry's axe.
In less than three moves, Henry took this man down.
Henry then took down five men with almost no effort.
The other seagulls were equally brave, and so far, there have been no casualties. They have basically overwhelmed the enemy forces on the deck.
Henry seized the opportunity to boost morale, raising his axe and shouting:
"The enemy is all show and no substance; they are utterly vulnerable. Their beaks are harder than ram's horns! Brothers, the time has come for the birds to devour the sheep!"
To dispel their inner fear, this group of pirates also shouted:
"Birds eating sheep!"
"Long live the seagulls!"
"For the gold!"
"Hold!"
The flock of birds was in high spirits, their fighting power soared instantly, and their suppression of the enemy became even more thorough.
"Ring ring ring!"
Just then, Henry heard the sound of bells.
"What was that sound?" Wall asked.
The Black Goat was a large ship, and to ensure that orders could be transmitted to every corner as quickly as possible, a communication device was installed on board using bells.
If the instructions hadn't changed in the past six years, Henry would have been able to understand the instructions conveyed by the bell.
If the bell rings in a loop with only a single sound, it means it's time to eat.
Two beeps indicate the daily change of shifts, three beeps command the shrimp to assemble on deck, and four beeps prepare for naval battle.
The incessant ringing of the bell is a signal that the enemy is attacking, ordering the goat foals to take up their blades and fight back hand-to-hand.
Henry then realized that the enemy he was fighting might not be the main force on the ship!
So he hurriedly warned, "Be careful, more enemies may be coming!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a large crowd surged out of the deck's stairwell.
Henry didn't count them precisely, but he could get a general idea of the number of reinforcements.
Ten people... twenty people... fifty people...
One hundred people?!
Henry's eyes widened; this was completely beyond his expectations.
Before boarding, after multiple volleys of fire, plus the magical arrows provided by Henry, they killed or burned at least forty pirates.
Although the seagulls' boarding action had only been going on for a short time, the results were already quite good, with five men already fallen to Henry's axe.
The pirate crew reaped at least thirty lives.
In other words, the flock of birds has now killed at least seventy pirates.
Henry and his men are still surrounded by more than a hundred enemies.
In other words, there were approximately two hundred sailors on board this large ship!
This is twice what Henry expected.
Even six years ago, when Henry's father was still an octopus on this ship, the pirate crew had never reached this size!
Before Henry could even think, the enemy... no, the enemy forces had already charged forward.
Sharp longswords, swift broadswords, pointed spears...
Pirates wielding various weapons swarmed in all at once.
Under their merciless offensive, the seabirds' hard-won expansion of their lines was quickly compressed.
Henry, including himself, had only twenty-two people in the flock.
He really didn't know how he could win a close-quarters battle against over a hundred people.
In the blink of an eye, one of his men died from a gun thrust out by the enemy from the shadows.
Soon after, another seagull, facing five swords at the same time, was unable to defend against all the attacks, its abdomen was cut open, and its internal organs spilled out onto the ground.
Only twenty birds remained in the flock.
This couldn't go on. Henry had already realized that his team's morale was rapidly declining and a rout was imminent.
If adjustments are not made in time, all the seabirds will be trampled into mincemeat by the lambs.
But what can Henry do right now?
For this unlikely battle, he even used the Flying Ship to feed the dogs.
What else can he rely on?
Do not!
and also!
Just like when Henry used enchanted arrows to counterattack under the onslaught of giant arrows, if it weren't for the loyal dog's intervention, the outcome of the battle between the sheep and the bird would have been uncertain.
The power the curator taught me is still within me. Henry’s eyes regained their determination. I can still rely on the Stargazer’s enchanted magic!
He decided to do it this way.
Henry's enchanting magic has a low success rate, and the current situation leaves him with no room for error.
He had to succeed on his first try.
In that case, he only has one option left for enchanting his character: "self-immolation," which has the highest success rate!
This is a desperate gamble.
When manipulating magical power to construct a magic circle, one cannot perform other actions, and therefore cannot guarantee one's own safety.
Henry then shouted, "Everyone, protect me!"
After saying this, Henry went to the middle of the crowd and sat down on the ground.
Then, he gathered power in his palm, and blue tentacles spread out.
The other seabirds had already witnessed Henry's miracles, and given the current dire situation, they probably understood that only by placing all their bets on Henry could they possibly turn the tide.
Henry felt protected and began to focus all his attention on magic.
The Stargazer's enchanting magic can be applied to any inanimate object.
Henry now has to decide the outcome with a single blow, and among many limitations, there is only one enchantment target he can think of...
Henry held his palm above the deck, and a magic circle was gradually drawn on the wooden board.
That's right, his goal is the entire deck!
Henry wants to burn the whole deck!
This is a desperate gamble, a fight to the death. Without the courage to perish together, one cannot be reborn from the brink of disaster.
As the magic circle gradually came together, Henry heard the clang of weapons, screams and roars, and even death itself.
"I am Henry the devil," Henry thought. "Now I even want to burn everyone alive, friend or foe!"
Henry knew that his men had suffered casualties, and he could feel the defensive line being compressed.
But he couldn't stop; there was no turning back.
Suddenly, a figure collapsed in front of Henry.
That was Wall, who had suffered multiple sword wounds, all of which were potentially fatal.
Henry concluded that he was not going to make it.
Wall looked at Henry and said through his bleeding mouth:
"I... don't owe you anything anymore..."
He was probably referring to the incident in Port Bone Marrow where Henry risked his life to save him.
Henry nodded, and then Wall's neck went limp, his cheek pressed against the wooden board.
Finally, the magic circle was completed.
It began to glow blue until it remained constantly lit and seeped into the interior of the wooden plank, indicating that the enchantment was successful.
Henry was panting heavily; he had exhausted too much energy and would probably be unable to use magic for a long time.
Henry used all his remaining strength in that strike.
Success or failure hinges on this!
Henry stood up and shouted:
"Wrap yourself up in clothes!"
Of course, only the seagulls led by the eagle would obey Henry's orders.
As for the lambs, they naturally didn't understand Henry's words and remained unmoved.
Henry also used that long coat to cover his skin as much as possible.
Then, Henry gripped the axe tightly and chopped down hard onto the deck.
The "self-immolation" effect was triggered, causing a small explosion on the entire deck of the Black Goat, followed by a burst of flames.
Flames licked at the night, painting the nearby seawater with brilliant colors.
The deck then collapsed under the ravages of the explosion and fire, and everything on the deck fell into the cabins.
Henry hurriedly threw off his burning coat and quickly found a corner to roll around and extinguish the remaining flames on his body.
Despite this, Henry suffered severe burns to both legs and his left hand.
He endured the intense burning pain as he gazed at the hellish scene before him.
Flames danced wildly on the debris of the main deck, the relentless fire even threatening to engulf the second deck.
Countless others wailed in agony as they were consumed by the flames.
They ran wildly on the ship, rolled around on the ground, and even crowded at the stairwell, trying to reach the railing and jump into the sea to extinguish the man-eating flames.
Those who were not burned were also gripped by panic.
Arson was a common tactic used by pirates, but when the target was themselves, they still could not escape their fear of fire.
Henry tightened his grip on the axe.
Although his tactics worked, the battle was far from over.
The local area suffered heavy losses, and it is estimated that most of their own people were burned to death, and even Henry himself was burned.
Once the lambs regained their senses and began to put out the fire, the remaining birds didn't even put up a fight.
Henry must seize the moment of chaos and establish a winning position.
To catch a thief, first catch the king. Without the octopus as a leader, the shrimp are nothing to fear!
If nothing unexpected happens, the octopus on this ship now should be an old acquaintance of Henry's.
But Henry has not yet seen the man's face.
This did not surprise Henry, however. Edwin was a cunning man who never went to the front lines and always made sure that he was in a position where his life would not be in danger.
If I'm not guessing, this person is definitely hiding in the captain's cabin right now.
Henry, axe in hand, strolled through the gaps in the flames toward the captain's cabin.
Suddenly, Henry felt a burning sensation in his ankle.
Turning his head, he saw a man engulfed in flames lying on the ground, gripping Henry tightly with his disfigured hand.
He called out weakly:
"Boss..."
Henry knew this was one of his men, but he couldn't discern the man's identity from his voice and the terrifying face beneath the flames.
Until this person spoke again:
"When you're sleeping with prostitutes, don't forget to mention my name..."
Ah, it's Wilson.
Henry took a deep breath, knelt down, stared intently at Wilson's face, and solemnly swore:
"It's a deal!"
Henry heard a few more laughs, then used his axe to give Wilson a quick death.
He left Wilson's body to be cremated and went straight to the captain's cabin.
Soon, he stood at the door of the captain's cabin.
With the main deck burned down, there wasn't much space left for Henry to land.
He tried to open the door to the captain's cabin, but as expected, it was locked from the inside.
Henry chopped the axe at the lock and then kicked it.
The door was kicked open, and then the person inside was met with a surprised gaze.
Upon seeing a familiar face, Henry couldn't help but smile, his eyes narrowing.
He was like a sentimental person, greeting everyone warmly:
"Hey, long time no see, Edwin!"
Edwin frowned and asked, "W-who are you?"
"Don't you remember me? We used to spend every day together."
Henry walked into the room, closing the door behind him.
"That's true. I was younger and more naive back then, but now I've become more mature."
But Edwin still couldn't remember: "Who are you?"
Henry looked somewhat disappointed and shook his head, saying:
"You really are forgetful. When you killed my father, the way you looked at me was so focused."
Upon hearing this, Edwin's pupils contracted, and his facial features contorted.
Henry understood; he remembered:
"You! You're Joachim's son?! You...you're Henry!"
"Haha, you finally got it right!"
Upon learning Henry's identity, Edwin's first reaction was to lunge at the bed, then roll over and grab a dueling sword that was placed beside the bed.
He drew his sword, discarded the scabbard, gripped the hilt tightly with both hands, and aimed it at Henry.
"Impossible! You fell into the middle of the ocean, and I didn't see you surface. You should have drowned long ago!"
"Poseidon kept me alive!" Henry laughed. "The Black Goat was a big ship, so there were many blind spots. I clung to the hull and followed the ship all the way to the shore. Then I followed other ships and hid in a place far away from you."
Edwin looked incredulous, and it took him a long time to finally accept the truth.
"So, you're here to kill me?"
"Isn't my intention obvious?"
"snort!"
Edwin chuckled.
"I was saying, how dare a small, light sailing ship defy the Black Goat? Oh, so you're the captain of that ship. That makes sense now."
"But I crippled your pirate crew with just a small boat, and now I stand before you. You've lost, Edwin."
Edwin laughed, then gripped the sword tightly with one hand, the tip resting on the floor, while his left hand remained open.
"Henry, since you've managed to get this far in such dire circumstances, you must be a smart man. I think you can understand me."
"..."
"Your father, Joachim, was an excellent warrior, but not an excellent captain. Under his leadership, the Black Goat was undefeated, but the casualties were equally heavy. His glory was built on a mountain of bones."
"But I am different. Since I became the octopus on this ship, the pirate ship has grown to an unprecedented size, and there have been very few crew casualties. I can bring wealth and safety to all pirates. Henry, you have to admit that I am more suitable to lead the Black Goat than Joachim."
Henry listened quietly, his expression calm, only asking a question without any emotion:
"What are you trying to say?"
"You're a smart man. If we cooperate, we'll definitely create a completely new pirate landscape. Henry, come on, you should give up revenge and join forces with me!"
Henry sneered and shook his head, saying:
"You've got one thing wrong."
"Um?"
"I'm not here for revenge... I'm just here to kill you..."
After speaking, Henry suddenly bent down and sprinted forward.
Axe blades flew, blood splattered everywhere...
