Chapter 26: Ending with Love
Chapter 26: Ending with Love
Inside Gwen's room.
Gwen turned and looked at the sofa.
A crow's head popped out with a whoosh, followed by another head.
"Losing weight?" The man and the bird spoke almost simultaneously.
After they finished speaking, their eyes turned to the pizza box on the table. The box was open, and there was still half a pizza inside.
Gwen slammed the pizza box shut in annoyance. "It's all so Dad won't find out about you guys!"
"I don't care, he can't see me anyway. If someone can see me, they're doomed," Oz said.
"I know you're capable, but I haven't seen you help Peter at all!" Gwen said, hands on her hips.
"Please, he's the one who didn't want my help!" Oz mimicked the girl's posture, putting his hands on his hips.
Gwen looked at Peter.
Peter's face was no longer as handsome as before; now it was bruised and swollen, making him look pitiful.
And this kid was grinning like an idiot, looking absolutely hideous!
Gwen thought this to herself until Peter spoke:
"I caused this mess, how can Oz be expected to solve it?"
"You're absolutely right, kid. I feel like this woman is trying to break us up. Let's go home!"

Despite saying he was going home, Oz had already flown to the pizza box, kicked open the lid with his toes, and started enjoying the rest of the pizza.
"I've saved your half for you, you're welcome."
Gwen rolled her eyes in exasperation.
She went to where Peter was and helped him back onto the soft sofa.
Looking at the other person's injured face, Gwen's eyes were full of heartache, and she gently reached out to stroke the other person's face.
"Are you sure you don't need to go to the hospital?" she asked.
Peter grasped the slender, fair fingers, smiled, and shook his head. "It's alright, I'll be fine after a good night's sleep. Oz said that with my current healing abilities, I'll be fine after a good night's sleep."
Gwen turned to look at Oz, who was eating pizza, as if to confirm its authenticity.
Oz turned to look at the mushy couple of in-laws, with half a pizza still dangling from his mouth.
"I've heard that sex life recovers faster."
"!??"
"Oz!"
These words made Peter so anxious that he sat up, but the movement aggravated his wound, and he cried out in pain and lay back down.
Gwen spat, her face flushed, then glared at Oz before continuing to urge Peter not to get agitated and to be careful not to worsen his wound.
"actually......"
Oz finished the half pizza in his mouth, jumped onto Gwen's head, and the latter reluctantly tried to shake him off, but found that she couldn't shake him off no matter what she did, so she simply let him stand there.
"He's currently in the growth phase, which means his self-healing and recovery abilities are stronger. Although it's not his peak, they are gradually increasing, so there's no need to worry too much."
"Of course," Oz said cheekily. "Maybe if you kiss him, the cells in your blood will beat more excitedly and he'll recover faster."
"Get out of here!" Gwen slapped Oz.
Just like before, this time the camera hit Oz's body, and then there was a screech as Oz flew out of the window.
"Going to steal someone else's fries!"
Upon hearing this, Gwen and Peter exchanged a glance and then smiled.
Oz's meaning was almost clear, practically an open hint: he wanted to create some private space for the two of them.
And they... also need this private space.
Gwen picked up the tattered spider mask that was lying on the floor.
She recalled the scene from before.
At that time, she had just recovered from the joy of Peter defeating the lizardmen and was worried about his current state. After trying to call him but receiving no answer, she felt a chill in her heart.
Then she heard something knocking on the window.
Upon closer inspection, she saw Oz and Peter, dressed in a tattered spider costume, waving and looking at her from outside the window.
The sight startled her greatly. She was both surprised and delighted, and quickly opened the window to let them in.
When she saw the wounds on Peter's face and his somewhat sunken chest, she almost cried out.
......
"Why a spider?" Gwen asked, holding the spider mask with half an eye rotten.
"Because I was bitten by a spider," Peter said.
"It's that simple?"
"It's that simple."
Without Oz's presence, the two seemed closer together, their heads almost touching.
Gwen laughed and said, "What if you bit me?"
"Did I bite you?" Peter asked, puzzled.
Gwen pointed to her chest.
Peter couldn't suppress the smile on his face. "I was bitten by you a long time ago, even before you."
"I don't believe it," Gwen said with a playful laugh, her forehead pressed against his.
"real!"
"..."
Gwen's heart melted at the smell of the other person's blood-stained scent.
She asked, "Why do you do this? To be Spider-Man?"
Peter thought of many things in an instant, but none of them were worth saying. After a long while, he shook his head slightly.
"Because of responsibility."
"responsibility?"
Peter said, "It has given me this ability, which I can use to do many things. Wouldn't it be a waste not to use it?"
Gwen continued, "So you put on the mask and became Spider-Man? But that's not really your job. There must be some reason that drove you to do it, right?"
Peter stared at Gwen's features without saying a word.
Perhaps it was because the girl's eyes could speak, and she was eager to know why.
Or perhaps those eyes were just too beautiful, so beautiful that he couldn't help but tell the truth.
"Before Uncle Ben died, the murderer who killed him worked at the same convenience store as me. I got into a fight with the clerk; I was just a little short of money to buy a bottle of milk."
"As I was about to leave, the man robbed the clerk, and by then I already had spider abilities."
He glanced at me, then tossed me the bottle of milk he couldn't get, which I chose to ignore.
Peter didn't continue talking about what happened after that, and no matter how many times he mentioned it, his eyes were still filled with tears.
Gwen was a smart girl and quickly guessed what would happen next.
"God."
Gwen covered her lips, unable to bear thinking about what had happened.
Peter nodded frankly. "That's exactly what you think."
"It's not your fault, you just didn't expect this outcome," Gwen tried to comfort her.
"No, it's my fault because I had the ability to stop it, but I didn't, so it's my fault."
Peter didn't mention that he later met Oz, but instead continued on that topic.
He said, "I provided the formula for the lizard serum to Dr. Connors. I have to take responsibility for this accident today, not only for Uncle Ben, but also for myself and for those who almost faced death."
Gwen was speechless upon hearing this.
She has no right to make Peter give up being Spider-Man.
She simply pressed her ear against Peter's head and said something.
Promise me you'll take good care of yourself from now on.
"Um."
Their heads were pressed tightly together, as if they would never be separated.
Peter remembered something Oz had said before.
Parker missed his chance.
Now the opportunity has returned to his hands.
Peter stared at her.
Gwen stared at him too.
Half a breath later, the fruit of their love fell between their lips.
"Is your injury healing faster?" she asked.
"All I felt was my heart racing," he said.
......
Outside the window, Oz looked down at the few feathers that had fallen, then glanced at the young couple embracing inside.
"You deserve it, kid."
A lizardman incident, different from the original plot, concludes with this moment of love.
It seems pretty good.
