Chapter 29 Talent
Chapter 29 Talent
Light streamed through the curtains by the window, illuminating the darkness of the entire bedroom.
On the long wooden plank bed, the old bedding, now cooled, was lifted, and a satisfied sigh escaped from the living room, separated only by a thin gray wall.
"Ha~"
boom.
The empty glass was slammed onto the table, and in the man's other hand, between his not-so-rough fingers, he suddenly began to flip through something that looked like a gray-white chip.
It appeared out of nowhere in a bizarre way—
【dinar】
[A special currency featuring a flame motif. These can be hidden anywhere; collect them and trade them with the Lava Lord at the Miracle Forge.]
[Note: The dinar, the light of my life, the fire of my desire!]
Xu Yang looked at the dinar in his hand, which was the reward for the mutation mission, and it seemed to involve a strange force.
A furnace? That sounds like some kind of blacksmithing place.
He shook his head slightly, put the currency into his pocket. The guide didn't have any storage space; it was just something you could take out at any time, and of course, you couldn't put it back afterward.
Perhaps at another time, he would have liked to continue playing with this strange currency.
But today, there are still important things to do.
It seems like there's never enough work to do...
Xu Yang sighed, picked up a loaf of bread from the table—breakfast, one of the few sources of comfort.
This was left by the original owner of the house, and it is perhaps the only thing of value in this basically "bare" house. He found it in a broken drawer after he got up.
The bread also contained some dry, hard bits of meat.
"It tastes pretty good." He ate his bread as he left the house.
……
Gathering place, underground area.
Walk straight across the square, turn right, and then turn left at the third intersection...
Xu Yang recalled the route Lily had just told him and finally arrived at his destination.
A dark yellow metal canopy, no walls around it, several tables lined up at the back, behind which sat staff in identical blue uniforms.
Nearby, two tracked robots held black gun barrels raised in front of their wrists, in case of potential conflict.
At that moment, several rows of people were queuing in front of the table. The environment was noisy, and at first glance, the number of people seemed about the same. Xu Yang randomly picked a row and joined the back.
Slightly stunned, I heard a bizarre conversation coming from the front—
"What can it do?"
"I've done murder, arson, robbery, and theft."
"That means you're good with your hands. Just be more careful next time. Take your number tag; someone from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will come to pick you up later."
……
Xu Yang's calm gaze shifted to the row on his right—
"And you?"
"I have a big appetite; this must be one of my mutated traits."
"..."
"This is not the next one."
……
On the left-hand side—
"Hey, you guys are so unprofessional. You recommend anyone to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I want a proper job."
"..."
"But you can't do anything, brother. You should be grateful you have food to eat, why are you being so picky?"
"That's your problem too. You didn't discover my hidden, one-in-a-million talent."
"What talent?"
"I haven't discovered it yet either."
"roll."
……
This is the job market in Gathering Point Three. At one point, Xu Yang felt that it would be more reliable for him to go back and become a scavenger with Lily.
"Fine, I'll give it a try anyway."
Xu Yang shook his head. Although it seemed rather unreliable, he tried to look on the bright side—
I am highly competitive among this group of people.
As time passed, the number of people in the front row gradually decreased...
finally--
"Go back and reflect for a bit longer, next one."
The man, who looked very weak, drifted away from Xu Yang in disappointment, muttering, "Why don't they support that kind of work? It's practically feudalism."
……
Xu Yang stepped forward, and the staff member behind the table nodded slightly.
"What?"
"It has a mutation that allows it to recover, and it can also use magic."
"Is that all?" The staff member didn't even look up. "Then take this sign. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contact you, or you can go by yourself."
Xu Yang looked at the small blue sign handed to him by the staff member, but did not immediately take it.
While waiting in line, all he heard about was this so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs; it seemed like anyone could be squeezed in.
He asked hesitantly, "Isn't there any other work?"
The staff member glanced at him. "A synthetic beast breeding farm opened in the west district. There's no salary, you work two shifts, but room and board are provided."
……
On the street, Xu Yang held the blue sign in his hand. In the end, he chose the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before he could even ask what the department did, he was chased away by the robot.
It's not something to be happy about that the person who committed arson, murder, and looting seems to be from the same department as him.
Xu Yang sighed.
"I wonder when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contact me. Is the sign for location services? Oh well, I'll just browse around first."
……
Half an hour passed in the blink of an eye.
On the street, Xu Yang stopped. In the crowd, a tall, thin man in a dark gray trench coat was walking straight toward him.
The man's skin was a plastic-white color, his eyes were sunken, he had a hooked nose, and some kind of black line or worm was swimming around his mouth. It had been sewn up.
It's unsettling and eerie.
Could this be the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
Xu Yang had some guesses in his mind, but he also became secretly on guard.
guide--
【Humanity】
[A healthy adult male has his mouth sewn shut, and he has an internal mutation.]
[Note: Listen to me...]
……
As the man in the trench coat approached, Xu Yang slowly tensed his thighs, standing still, ready to deal with any unexpected situation.
Fortunately, the other party stopped at a distance that was neither too close nor too far.
Xu Yang breathed a sigh of relief and tentatively asked, "Ministry of Foreign Affairs?"
The man in the trench coat nodded slightly, turned and led the way, his movements clean and efficient. If one ignored the sounds coming from ahead—
"Mmm, mmm, mmm?"
"..."
Is it possible that I don't understand?
"Mmm, mmm mmm mmm, mmm, mmm?"
……
Xu Yang now understood why this guy's mouth was like that; the sounds from ahead hadn't stopped the whole way, even though his mouth had been sealed shut.
On the street, at this very moment—
The scene was extremely eerie.
The man, who looked terrifying and eerie, kept muttering "uh-huh" as he walked, occasionally glancing back with eager eyes and slight nods, as if he were having some kind of conversation with the person behind him.
But the man behind him kept his head down...
The incessant "hmm" sounds in his ears reminded Xu Yang of the mosquitoes' buzzing when they were setting up camp earlier.
It's even more torturous than mosquitoes.
Is this some kind of test to get into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
Xu Yang almost gritted his teeth as he thought this.
……
Fortunately, the torment didn't last much longer. After turning a few corners, the man in the trench coat finally shut up.
At that moment, a building blocked their way. It was a black building that stood out among the low-rise metal "matchboxes".
It has a strange black color like obsidian all over, and it even looks like a huge, well-formed obsidian crystal.
People were coming and going around, and it seemed that many people worked here.
The man in the trench coat led Xu Yang over.
Before entering the gate, Xu Yang reached out and touched the outside wall, which had a metallic texture.
But before he could think any further—
"Mmm, mmm, mmm..."
Damn it, this is never going to end!
