Chapter 145 Time Machine
Chapter 145 Time Machine
Generally speaking, when his good friend encounters difficulties, the understanding Tony Stark will make sarcastic remarks and then use his vast wealth to help the friend solve the problem.
There's nothing we can do about it; after all, he's been the top man on People magazine's "Men of the Year" list for many consecutive years.
Now, after listening to his good friend Joey explain his current situation, Tony can only think, "Is it too late for me to leave?"
Honestly, Tony secretly analyzed the frequency band of Joey's energy field radiation, and the feedback he got was unbelievable.
He always felt that someone like Joey, who possessed great power yet wasn't arrogant, couldn't possibly live in a bad world.
Who would have thought that this world really has nothing to do with being bad—because it's about to collapse!
The impending war within the solar system reminded Tony of a regional conflict between North America and East Asia in the last century.
In one of the key and brutal battles, both sides used various high-explosive weapons to fight for a strategic high ground on the front line, which reduced the height of the hill where the position was located by several meters.
The Earth side is neither the aggressor nor the defender in the conflict, nor is it a party to the conflict in any of the countries involved.
They are now like ants on that mountaintop.
"There's no need to be so pessimistic."
Cyborg, who was standing nearby, immediately knew which battle Tony was referring to after browsing the internet. He stroked his steel chin thoughtfully.
"I think we should at least be the squirrels on that mountain."
"...What difference is there?!"
After talking for a long time, Joey was finally breaking down. Has Cyborg been using some kind of comedic plugin lately?
"Can't you say something useful?!"
"It'll work... Ah, I've got it!"
Cyborg slapped his forehead and came up with an idea:
"Why don't you go see your father now and see if you can use the power of family to influence him?"
Today, Joey learned a new language called speechlessness:
Do you think that's possible?!
The other side brought thousands of Kryptonian warships from the other side of the universe to this place, and they are determined to obtain the Anti-Life Equation hidden on Earth. How could they withdraw because of a few words from me?
"Honestly, I think I should give it a try."
Tony, who was standing nearby, did take Cyborg's words to heart:
"You and your father see things from different perspectives."
For the first half of Tony's life, he always thought his father was the worst father in the world.
Tony had always taken the other person's coldness and sternness as an outward manifestation of not loving him, until Tony found the video footage left behind by the other person, which guided him to improve the Arc Reactor.
The feelings between fathers and sons are sometimes not understood, and Tony only recently realized this, but unfortunately his father had already left him.
"From your perspective, Joey, your father was never involved in any moment of your growing up; he was like a complete stranger to you."
But from his perspective, it's completely different. He witnessed your birth; you're not a stranger to him. You're his son. Feel free to make all sorts of unreasonable demands of him; even if he can't fulfill them, he'll have to consider it!
"No, absolutely impossible!"
Joey dismissed the suggestion without a second thought: "We're not filming 'Fast & Furious' right now!"
Cyborg, who was present at the scene, swiftly retorted after his beloved movie was criticized: "What's wrong with Fast & Furious? This movie series is great!"
"Alright, alright guys, quiet down! This is a tactical meeting, not a movie-watching tea party!"
After stopping Cyborg's antics, Tony looked at Joey, who was very reluctant to meet his father. He could tell at a glance that Joey was psychologically ill, or in short, his thinking was off.
He had no idea how to face his long-lost alien father, so he simply chose the easiest way out: escape.
From a psychological perspective, some things do need time to process, just like Tony had more than ten years to slowly sort out his feelings for his father.
Unfortunately, Joey only has a few dozen hours left, not enough time for him to slowly come to his senses.
"Time is of the essence. Since someone won't accept my and Cyborg's Plan A, he'd better come up with a Plan B!"
"Of course! If you two hadn't brought up extra topics like Shangganling and Fast & Furious to interrupt my train of thought, I would have finished speaking long ago—Tony, I remember you mentioned time earlier?"
After shaking his head to clear away the mess of information from the chaotic scene, Joey turned to Iron Man and asked him a question:
"Then let me ask you, how long has it been since I last dealt with the Amazons and saw you again, until now you've come to me again?"
"Not a moment's time!"
When the topic turned to his area of expertise, Tony immediately became animated again:
"It only took me four months!"
After saying this, Tony Stark's lips curled up slightly, and he looked up at the two people present, practically saying "How about that, am I awesome or not?" on his face.
He was able to reverse-engineer the extremely limited energy spectrum left by Joey, thus gaining insight into the secrets of time travel. Without a doubt, he was a genius among geniuses.
"wtf..."
Cyborg was the first to feel disbelief. He wasn't too surprised that Tony had built a time machine in a few months; given the right sample, he could build one too.
What surprised him was the timing.
"Four months!"
Upon hearing this, Tony's face immediately fell.
"Don't tell me you can build it in less time!"
"No, Tony, this has nothing to do with the time you spent building the machine! No, it does!"
Cyborg was so excited he was incoherent:
"You don't understand. From the time Joey said the Amazons withdrew until today, less than a week has passed here!"
"Oh my god."
Tony finally understood: "The frames of reference are not the same between different universes. There isn't an absolute frame of reference between our two universes, which means..."
"This means that the movement and decay of matter in our two universes are not synchronized."
Joey picked up the thread: "In plain terms, the flow of time is different between the two universes, and it can even be artificially controlled by us."
Having figured it out on the spot, Tony reached out and straightened a tie that wasn't actually on his chest:
"I'm ready to win the Nobel Prize in Physics—no, I'm ready to rename it the Stark Prize in Physics!"
"You could even change the Nobel Prize in Physics to the Hawking Wheelchair Award, it wouldn't be out of the question."
Joey held up the pocket watch in his hand and showed it to the three of them:
"The premise is that we can figure out how to build a usable machine in the shortest possible time."
Upon hearing this, Cyborg and Tony exchanged a glance, and a new drone armor detached from Cyborg's body.
This led Tony to another part of the watchtower:
"This way to the lab."
Fortunately, the words "research," "build," and "machine" were not a problem for the three people present, especially Tony and Cyborg.
