Chapter 575 - 576: Relationship with the Wutian Celestial Emperor [1/10]
"Could you grant this old man a favor?"
As the voice sounded, a figure swiftly arrived.
"Greetings, City Lord!"
Seeing the middle-aged man, the common citizens and the soldiers of the City Lord’s Mansion all bowed respectfully.
Wu Tian and his family, however, just stood there quietly, showing no intention of bowing. Wu Tian, in particular, couldn’t help but think of his friend, Guang Changlin, upon seeing this City Lord. Aside from not being bald, the man was the spitting image of his friend, whom he had nicknamed ’Baldy’ Guang, plunging Wu Tian into a sea of memories.
"How dare you! You see the City Lord and do not kneel! You killed my mother, so you must be a spy from another clan!" Now that his father, the City Lord, had arrived, Guang Ming felt emboldened. He regained his usual arrogance and shouted at Wu Tian.
Wu Tian’s eyes turned cold as he continued toward Guang Ming, gripping the Vanquishing Heaven Seal. He had been lost in his memories and had momentarily forgotten about killing the boy, but Guang Ming’s shouts had jolted him back to reality. He was truly courting death!
With one move of the seal, Wu Tian smashed it down.
"No!" Guang Ming cried out in horror.
The City Lord was also stunned. It all happened in the blink of an eye.
Under the Vanquishing Heaven Seal, Guang Ming died instantly.
"My God, he actually killed the City Lord’s son!"
"How could he dare?"
"Our City Lord is a master of the Third Realm, the Heavenly King Realm!"
The citizens murmured among themselves, gazing at Wu Tian with pity. They couldn’t discern Wu Tian’s cultivation realm; they lacked the insight. In their eyes, Wu Tian couldn’t possibly be more powerful than the City Lord. He was only relying on that Supreme Treasure, and even that, they considered nothing extraordinary. How could he possibly be a match for the City Lord? Once the City Lord made his move, Wu Tian’s defeat was certain.
The City Lord walked toward Wu Tian, and the crowd assumed he was finally about to unleash his wrath. They failed to notice the strange look in his eyes as he saw Wu Tian.
Only Guang Lin noticed. He saw the City Lord’s gaze land on Wu Tian, looking him up and down. Usually, the City Lord’s gaze was profound and vast, but today it was filled with an intense surprise that only grew the longer he looked.
Why is this? Could this young man really be related to our Guang Family? Guang Lin looked at Wu Tian again, only to see that his expression was calm, completely unaffected.
"Are you... Is your surname Wu?" the City Lord asked, staring intently at Wu Tian, his eyes filled with a mixture of anticipation and astonishment.
"Yes," Wu Tian said coolly. A man of integrity does not change his name. There was nothing to hide.
"Your surname really is Wu! Then, what is your relationship with... with that Wu Tian?" Hearing Wu Tian’s confirmation, the City Lord was violently shaken. He couldn’t help but exclaim as a tidal wave of shock surged through his heart.
The citizens finally noticed their City Lord’s strange behavior, but they were confused. What’s so special about the surname Wu?
After all, everyone knew of the Wutian Celestial Emperor, but very few knew his real name. How did the City Lord know it? Because it was a secret passed down to the Family Heads of the Guang Family. Guang Changlin had once left behind a painting, a portrait of three sworn brothers.
One was Guang Changlin himself.
The second was a monarch from a past generation of the Xiuyuan Country’s royal family.
And the third was Wu Tian.
The three brothers had lived together in Xiuyuan Country for a time. Eventually, two of them stayed behind while the third continued his journey into the vast Immortal Emperor Realm, ultimately becoming the Wutian Celestial Emperor.
"What do you think my relationship with him is?" Wu Tian asked with a slight smile.
"You... Your relationship with him is definitely not ordinary." The City Lord’s shock grew ever stronger, his usual composure completely vanishing. In his view, this young man was likely a descendant of the Wutian Celestial Emperor himself.
Years ago, the Wutian Celestial Emperor had vanished. For a thousand years, the Upper and Lower Realms of the Immortal Emperor Realm were abuzz with theories. Some said he had died. Others claimed he had found the love of his life and retired to a reclusive life.
Another thousand years passed, and the Heavenless Immortal Domain was annihilated, yet the Wutian Celestial Emperor did not emerge to protect the lands he had founded. Afterward, new storms began to brew. Among the Immortal Emperors, some died, while others seized the Heavenly Mandate and rose to take their place. The changes to the landscape over the last ten thousand years had been truly beyond anyone’s expectations.
"Where can I find historical records from the last ten thousand years?" Wu Tian asked the City Lord. What exactly has changed in the Immortal Emperor Realm over the past ten thousand years? He had to find out.
"I know little of history myself. This is the Lower Realm, after all. I think the royal family’s Heavenly King Sect has a larger collection of archives. Their records might be more detailed."
"The royal family?" Wu Tian smiled. "Can you arrange an introduction?"
He needed to see those historical records. He wanted to see for himself which new Immortal Emperors had emerged during his ten-thousand-year absence, and which of the ones he knew had fallen.
"We’re family! Why be so formal?" The City Lord said, though he hesitated. Although Wu Tian was a descendant of an ancestor’s old friend, he had, after all, just killed his wife and son. But this City Lord was not a narrow-minded man. He knew how outrageously his wife had behaved, and he hated himself for his inability to be sternly impartial. Despite his discomfort, he still said, "I will take you to the royal city myself."
Wu Tian nodded.
Just then, some Elders from the Heavenly Sword Sect arrived. They were completely unaware of what had transpired, knowing only that their disciple had been killed. They rushed to the City Lord and said, "City Lord, please administer justice and punish the murderer severely! This man’s killing of our disciple shows he is extremely violent. If he isn’t brought to justice, it will be impossible to quell the public outrage."
"Public outrage? What public?" The City Lord’s eyes grew cold as he turned to the Heavenly Sword Sect Elders. "Your Heavenly Sword Sect has branches in every city of Xiuyuan Country. Are you telling me you’re unaware of your disciples’ conduct?"
"This..." The Heavenly Sword Sect Elders didn’t know how to respond. Of course they knew about the character of their disciples. In a sect, the quality of its members varied greatly, and theirs was filled with ruffians and rogues.
The City Lord glanced at the Elders and said, "I know you feel wronged. You are, after all, the number one sect in Xiuyuan Country. You are just a branch; you can inform your main sect and have them deal with him. But let me give you a piece of advice: making an enemy of him is the same as courting death!"
With a wave of his sleeve, the City Lord said no more and invited Wu Tian to the City Lord’s Mansion. The Heavenly Sword Sect Elders were left standing there, looking at each other in dismay.
"Do you believe what City Lord Guang said?" one of the Elders asked.
The others all shook their heads.
"Our Heavenly Sword Sect is the foremost sect in Xiuyuan Country. Even the royal family shows us deference. Who does he think he is?"
"Exactly. Send his portrait to the main sect and let them handle him!"
