Chapter 64 The Conspiracy Hidden in the Shadows (1)
Chapter 64 The Conspiracy Hidden in the Shadows (1)
Wano Country, Oni Island.
"Where is Lord Kaido? Where is Lord Kaido?" A voice came from outside, searching for Kaido. The tone was urgent.
"what happened?"
Inside the room, the two big bosses, Jin and Quinn, looked at the flustered people as if they had expected something, but they remained calm, perhaps due to the basic qualities of being big bosses.
"Young Master Yamato wants to fight Lord Kaido again. Young Master Yamato is so aggressive, we can't stop him."
"Ignore him. Lord Kaido isn't here, so his presence won't make a difference," King said calmly.
The newcomers looked at the two men with some fear. Young Master Yamato wouldn't do anything to them, but how were they going to explain themselves to him? "Where is Lord Kaido? Young Master Yamato won't let this go without him!"
"Hahaha, yo yo, Lord Kaido, yo, he's probably still in the Navy prison right now."
"What?!"
"Don't worry, they'll be back soon," Jin explained before dismissing the others.
The two prominent figures stood facing each other in the room. Their personalities were very different, yet they managed to get along harmoniously.
"How many times has Lord Kaido gone in here?" Quinn joked.
“Now we can count them on one hand, but it might not be so in the future.” Jin held up five fingers to show his hand.
Both of them knew a little about Kaido's unexpected behavior, but they didn't quite understand it.
“After reading Oden’s diary, Lord Kaido has been searching for ways to harm him, and he’s become overly fixated on the results in the diary.” King frowned at this.
"Lord Kaido should try out the results of my research, hahahahaha."
"Hmph, how is that girl doing now?"
"You mean that girl who ran away from Jack? She's with the Big Mom Pirates."
A year ago, that girl, Yu, escaped from Jack's clutches. Jack the Drought, one of the three great commanders of the Beasts Pirates, couldn't stop a little girl.
It's hard to say whether she's very powerful or very intelligent. But at least, Kaido wants her.
Aside from the girl's own strength, there was another reason: Oden's diary mentions the girl, but only in that one sentence.
Ironically, the ones with the fewest records are the most impossible to ignore.
A woman who possesses the power of the ocean can change her destiny.
Kaido has been trying to change his final fate, but has not succeeded so far. The girl who suddenly appears in the diary is a turning point.
He had frequently read the diary since he acquired it, but one day, a sentence appeared in it. He knew it had appeared suddenly; he didn't know the exact time, but at least his fate could be changed.
“Even so, Lord Kaido still wants to keep her in the Beasts Pirates,” King said. “I heard you’ve been developing a new drug recently, and you produced a defective product, is that right?”
"Duh! You actually know that? Forget it, I, Quinn, could never develop a defective product!" Quinn was so shocked by Jin's words that his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"Your defective product won't kill anyone, so it's perfect for that girl."
"Hey! Why didn't I think of that? Let's teach her a lesson and show her the consequences of refusing our Beasts Pirates."
A plot to assassinate You was quietly unfolding.
World Wheat Island.
Yu, who was dozing off next to Katakuri late at night, sneezed twice in his sleep.
Rubbing her nose, she gradually woke up. Katakuri had finished all the donuts and tea. He seemed to be in good spirits, but Yuu was still very sleepy.
"Awake?" Seeing that Yu was awake, Katakuri shifted his position and picked her up horizontally.
Still half-asleep, I couldn't help but panic at the sudden sudden suspension in mid-air. "What...what are you doing?"
Katakuri gently pressed Yu's head, which was tilting back to look around, back onto his shoulder. "I'll take you back to your room to sleep."
"Oh..."
Since nothing was wrong, Yu snuggled up to Katakuri and continued sleeping. She knew he was worried she might catch a cold lying outside, but that sneeze just now meant someone was talking badly about her behind her back, or something else—it definitely wasn't anything good.
"hu~hu~"
Yu fell into a deep sleep while going up the stairs. Katakuri walked to the middle of their room, hesitated for a moment, then pushed open Yu's door, went in, and carefully settled her on the bed before leaving.
Life in Whole Cake Island was peaceful. Every day, besides being with Katakuri, she spent time with Bleubourin, and mostly with Katakuri's brothers and sisters. Yu remembered them all, but wasn't familiar with them all.
However, to Yu's surprise, Whole Cake Island also has invaders, simply put, pirate crews seeking the Poneglyphs. But they are often repelled at the edge of Whole Cake Island; even the strongest ones that reach the center are met with defeat under Big Mom's watchful eye, either surrendering or losing limbs and decades of their lives.
It has to be said, that old lady is quite something. Yu had heard of her soul incantation, but had never seen it in person. When he asked Katakuri, he just brushed it off and told Yu not to delve into it.
Wheat Island is located in another part of Whole Cake Island. Foreign pirates generally do not invade from Wheat Island, largely because they know that it is an island managed by Charlotte Katakuri of Whole Cake Island. It would be unwise for Whole Cake Island to confront him head-on upon arrival.
This made Yu very bored. Katakuri would never let her go to the front lines. If she went secretly, she wouldn't be well-informed, wouldn't be able to find her way, and even if she got there, it would be over by then.
All that remained were post-war ruins.
During this period, the country was on high alert, as these pirate crews appeared one after another as if by prior arrangement.
As the leader of the Three Sweet Commanders, Katakuri has a lot to do, including discussing matters with his older brother Perospero and other ministers, as well as post-war reconstruction. Initially, Katakuri would return to Komugi Island, but later his visits became less frequent. Fortunately, with Bleubourin by his side, Yuu isn't too lonely.
Wheat Island and several nearby islands were spared from pirate invasions, and the inhabitants of those islands needing repairs temporarily moved there. The island suddenly became lively. Celluloid and Flampe also arrived.
"Why are those two here? There's an old lady on Whole Cake Island, surely nothing bad will happen to them." Yu looked at Franpei, who treated this place like her own home, with a resentful expression.
"Sister You, don't be angry. Mom just thinks it's safer here with my brother. She'll be leaving soon," Pudding said, trying to smooth things over.
"Soon, how soon?" he gritted his teeth, a clicking sound coming from between them. "If she stays here any longer, I won't be safe!"
Just having Franpez there made Yu feel uncomfortable in every cell of her body. Especially since this girl was deliberately trying to annoy Yu. Touching and looking at everything, Yu was starting to wonder if she was going to stay permanently.
And then there's Cellulose, who claims to be protecting Flampe, yet she's gotten so close to Flampe. Very well, someone she dislikes, and someone who's plotting against her—the two of them are getting so close.
What, you think her life in the world is too unrestrained? Let's give her something to do, let's make her suffer a bit?
When Katakuri returns, I must have a serious talk with them and make them hurry back to Whole Cake Island.
"Sister Yu, let's make some donuts! Brother Katakuri will be back today!"
"Today? How did you know?" Yu was somewhat incredulous, yet she hoped it was true. She was unaware of the battle situation, and although she knew that with Katakuri's strength, nothing bad would happen, she was still afraid of distracting him, so she hadn't contacted him via Den Den Mushi.
“Bree said so, she saw it in the mirror.” Pudding wasn’t sure, so she shifted the blame to Bree.
Brin gestured to Brûlée with her eyes, and Brûlée could only nod in agreement, "Yes...yes, my brother will be back today."
Pudding! What are you doing!
Sister Brulee, there's nothing I can do. Look at Yu's expression, she's probably going to eat Flampe.
You can't lie to her either. If your brother doesn't come back, the two of us will be the ones who get eaten!
No, it's just you.
Brulee felt a chill run down her spine as she looked at Brulee's slightly open third eye. In the end, she was the only one who was hurt.
Yu wasn't blind; she could tell from their interaction that they were trying to distract her, but she didn't want to call them out on it. She also hoped that Katakuri would come back today.
"Let's go! Let's do more today!" You jumped up, rolled up her sleeves, and got to work with great enthusiasm.
