Chapter 47 Anchor Point
Chapter 47 Anchor Point
Chapter 50 Anchor Point
Enter the "Cape Territory".
Jiang Yuan observed the surrounding environment as he went.
The houses were low, built of rough stones, and their walls were covered with white salt frost.
The roof was covered with dried seaweed, and the edges were weighed down with stones.
The common people here were all emaciated and ragged. When they saw the knight's figure in the distance, they hurriedly scurried to the side of the road, hanging their heads and not daring to look directly at him. Their eyes were full of numbness and fear.
The knights, however, did not give way at all, galloping wildly through the streets, splashing mud and water all over passersby, but no one dared to utter a sound.
Finally, the group arrived at a huge castle.
The castle is built at the highest point of the town, backed by a low cliff.
The gray stone wall was covered with withered vines, and the corners were pitted and covered with a layer of white salt stains from the sea wind.
The heavy wooden door was open, its surface covered in rust.
Jiang Yuan turned his head to look from his horse.
From the cliff, you can see a vast expanse of sea.
The setting sun was turning the sea orange-red.
"Come with me to see His Excellency the Consul." Corwin dismounted, tossed the reins to a guard, and strode into the castle.
The guards on either side of the gate stood expressionless, showing no intention of bowing to the nominally new lord.
Jiang Yuan didn't say anything, and followed Tissa inside.
He was starting to lose interest in acting.
When the legitimate lord himself arrived, the so-called governor didn't even show his face or make any arrangements to greet him. It seems that Corwin's attitude was instructed to do so.
It was all so obvious that the other party didn't take him seriously at all.
Is this an attempt to seize power and turn him into a puppet?
Or did the other party simply believe he was a fake?
Regardless, Jiang Yuan remained constantly on edge, ready to open the gate to the boundary and escape at any moment.
But before that, he wanted to meet this governor and see who he really was.
Rows of maids knelt on both sides of the corridor, their heads bowed low, not daring to breathe.
Jiang Yuan walked through them without changing his expression, leading the preoccupied Tissa into a spacious and luxurious room.
Inside the room, a man sat behind a long table, with Corwin standing beside him.
The man was about forty years old, with thinning hair and a bulky body that filled the chair completely.
He is the governor here, "Marcus".
Marcus's gaze swept over Jiang Yuan and the other person who walked in, but only briefly passed over Jiang Yuan before fixing firmly on Tissa.
Those small eyes gleamed with undisguised lust and greed.
Tissa felt uncomfortable under his gaze and subtly hid behind Jiang Yuan.
Jiang Yuan spoke first: "You're the governor here?"
Marcus then slowly shifted his gaze to Jiang Yuan, his small eyes, squeezed into slits by his fat belly: "Indeed. This must be His Excellency Roger O'Connor?"
He paused, his tone sounding polite enough, but the words carried a hint of sarcasm: "I've already heard that the guard was unfortunately wiped out. It's truly fortunate that you and Lady Tisha survived."
While saying "thank goodness," his eyes uncontrollably slid towards Tissa's body, scanning her delicate form back and forth.
Then, as if asking casually, he suddenly asked, "I wonder, Your Excellency, has your father, the Duke—sent more men over? Are they following behind?"
Jiang Yuan sneered inwardly, but casually made up a story: "Of course, they're right behind us, they'll be here soon."
Then, his tone changed, and he adopted the air of a spoiled young master, ordering arrogantly, "Quickly call some people for me. I still need to send a message back to the capital, asking my father to send more people and supplies."
Marcus's eyes flickered a few times, then he forced a smile: "My lord, please don't rush. It's getting late. Why don't you and your wife rest first? We can discuss everything tomorrow."
He clapped his hands, and a maid came forward in response.
"Take the two of you down to rest."
Colewin, standing to the side, kept his eyes fixed on Jiang Yuan and the other two.
Once outside, the maid led the way with her head down, and at the end of a corridor, pointed to a door and said, "This is your room."
Then she pointed to another door right next to it and said to Tissa, "Madam, this is yours—"
Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Yuan had already stepped into his room.
Tisha followed without hesitation and slammed the door shut behind her.
This is a simply furnished room, not very large, and the furniture is not particularly fancy.
Judging from the furnishings, it's just an ordinary room in the castle.
Arranging for a lord to stay in such a room was an act of humiliation that was made no attempt to conceal its true meaning.
Jiang Yuan turned around in the middle of the room, looked at Tissa who had followed him in, and asked knowingly, "Why are you following me? Your room is over there."
Tissa, seeing his nonchalant attitude, felt a pang of helplessness. She said, "From the moment you entered the city until now, haven't you noticed? Not a single person has bowed to you. The governor didn't come to greet you, and the lord was given this servant's room. In his eyes, you're probably already a dead man!"
Jiang Yuan gave a faint "hmm".
All you can do is say "hmm"? — Tissa felt that she had been completely wrong about this mysterious man.
This person clearly possesses second-tier strength, yet acts as if he has no brains at all.
But now she is inextricably linked to him; their fates are intertwined.
Moreover, she would never dare to live alone.
The way that governor looked at her just now was exactly the same as the way Rogge looked at her before, even more blatant.
"You and I are now bound by a single life; we must look after each other," she explained patiently.
"Do you want to sleep with me?" Jiang Yuan asked.
Tissa's face flushed red and then pale. She glared at him angrily and said, "What nonsense are you talking about? I meant we should take turns keeping watch over each other. That way we'll be safe. Besides, to outsiders, we're husband and wife, so it's normal for us to live together."
"Okay." Jiang Yuan nodded, then waved his hand. "Then you should go to the next room."
"You—" Tissa's voice trembled with anger, "Fine, I'll just become that fat pig's woman, and you can just wait to die alone!"
With a "bang," she yanked the door open and slammed it shut again.
Outside the door, the maid was still there, and she cautiously spoke, "Madam—"
Tissa, her face cold and expressionless, pushed open the door to the next room and locked herself inside.
Inside the pitch-black room.
She leaned against the thin wooden door, slowly squatted down, curled up behind the door, and buried her face in her knees.
Inside the consul's room.
Marcus was leaning back in his large chair, squinting his eyes, and humming contentedly.
Beneath the chair, the figure of a kneeling maid can be vaguely seen.
Suddenly, he shuddered and let out a satisfied sigh.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Marcus called out lazily, his eyes closed.
The door was pushed open, and Corwin walked in.
The maid hurriedly got up, lowered her head, and quickly retreated.
"How is it?" Marcus asked casually as he straightened his robes.
"They went back to their rooms, and Tissa followed Roger into one of them," Cole reported.
Marcus's eyes widened suddenly, a hint of ferocity flashing across his fat face.
He fell in love with Tisa at first sight and had already marked her as his own, someone no one else could touch.
Corwin added, "However, she came out in less than a minute and had already gone back to her room."
Marcus's expression softened slightly, and he nodded in satisfaction.
Judging from his extensive experience with women, Natissa was clearly still a virgin.
Although he was a little curious, he wondered why that playboy hadn't touched her yet.
However, it seems that the rumors might be true; the duke's son might really be a good-for-nothing.
Corwin hesitated for a moment, then lowered his voice and asked, "That man—is he really Roger?"
After a moment's thought, Consul Marcus slowly said, "It shouldn't be false. That Tisha comes from a prestigious family; she wouldn't lie to someone of unknown origin. But anyway, whether it's true or false doesn't really matter."
He leaned back in his chair and sneered, "The intelligence we received makes it very clear that this Rogge is not favored by his father at all. Otherwise, how could the son of a duke be exiled to a place like this?"
Corwin nodded, a sinister smile spreading across his face: "When I saw his personal guards all wiped out, I was thinking about whether I should kill him on the spot."
Marcus waved his hand, a sinister smile spreading across his face. "The medicine was indeed quite effective; the 'Greyspine Beasts' it attracted played a significant role."
He paused, his smile fading, and said seriously, "Wait another day or two to see if what he said about having personal guards behind him is true or false. Have him write that letter to the capital as well, but keep an eye on things; the content should only be a request for supplies."
He sneered again: "But even if he wrote it, the duke probably wouldn't send anything over. His father's intention is to let him fend for himself here."
"Once we confirm that he has no personal guards behind him, we will send him to see his guards in a couple of days."
The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously let out a low laugh.
A few minutes ago.
Inside the room, Jiang Yuan watched as Tisha stormed out, slamming the door shut, disregarding all decorum, and shook his head slightly.
These college students from another world are nothing special; they can't keep their composure at all.
He deliberately got rid of Tissa.
The hostility between this consul and Corwin was obvious even to a fool.
Jiang Yuan didn't need to think too much to roughly guess what was going on.
It's nothing more than a power struggle; the newly appointed lord has threatened the other party's position.
If things continue like this, even if the original Rogge hadn't died in the canyon, he would have ended up as nothing more than a puppet lord and an incompetent husband who was cuckolded.
But he is not Roger.
"Since there are no Tier 3 here—" Jiang Yuan's lips curled up slightly, and his thoughts raced.
A golden portal silently opened in front of him.
The second anchor point!
That's right, he's going back to the Frostclaw tribe to recruit more people.
