Chapter 165: Sacrifice of Madness
Chapter 165: Sacrifice of Madness
[Authority of Invincibility]
The moment the Authority activated, an invisible force spread across the Eastern and Southern Islands.
There was no obvious light or some sort of grand wall.
Yet every Stream Hunter could feel that something had changed.
It was as though a powerful guardian had suddenly stepped between them and the descending Divinity.
The pressure weighing down on their bodies weakened, and the unbearable feeling threatening to crush their minds began to fade.
Even the divine radiance pouring from the heavens seemed less overwhelming.
The hunters who had been forced to close their eyes found that the pain had lessened.
Those covering their ears realized the maddening whispers hidden within the Divinity were becoming quieter.
The Authority that Adam wielded seemed to not only protect their bodies, but also their minds and existences, along with their will to continue fighting.
This was Adam’s version of [Invincibility].
Not a power that made himself untouchable, but a power that allowed others to endure what should have been impossible.
The torrent of Divinity continued descending from the heavens, yet Adam remained unmoving.
His crimson wings spread wide as he stood directly in its path.
From below, the supporting Stream Hunters quickly realized what he was doing.
"He is shielding us!"
"Support him!"
Immediately, dozens of buff spells were cast.
Golden circles appeared beneath Adam’s feet as streams of mana surged toward him.
A priestess raised her staff.
"Blessing of Sanctuary!"
A golden light wrapped around Adam’s body.
A mage pointed his wand toward the sky.
"Mana Restoration!"
Blue particles gathered around him before flowing into his body.
A support-type Stream Hunter clenched both fists.
"Fortified Defense!"
Layers of protective mana stacked upon Adam’s already powerful defenses.
System notifications rapidly appeared before him.
[Your Magic Defense has increased.]
[Your Mana Regeneration has increased.]
[Your Mental Resistance has increased.]
[Your Divine Resistance has increased.]
[Your Physical Defense has increased.]
[Your Stamina Recovery has increased.]
One notification after another filled his vision.
The support of hundreds of Stream Hunters gathered onto a single individual.
Adam looked up at the descending [Divinity].
The pressure it brought was immense and the danger was undeniable.
Yet his expression remained calm.
Behind him stood thousands of people.
’I suppose we have no choice but to abandon the alternative objective...’
That was Adam’s first thought.
The Storm Tyrant was simply too hostile. There was no room for negotiation amidst a battle of this scale.
If things continued like this, they would have no choice but to defeat the Floor Boss by force...
However, before Adam could fully commit to that conclusion, the gigantic eye in the sky slowly turned.
Its gaze turned toward the Eastern Islands...
Towards him... and toward the strange individuals gathered around him.
"How curious..."
Zephiron’s voice echoed across the Seventh Floor.
The divine pressure in the seventh floor grew heavier.
"Stream Hunters whose existence levels should have long surpassed this floor..."
His gaze swept past Raiden and Miya.
"An individual wielding an Authority that does not belong to this universe..."
The enormous eye paused on Adam.
Then it moved its gaze once more.
This time, it landed upon the towering metallic figure holding a spear.
"And strangest of all..."
The Storm Tyrant’s voice lowered.
"Guardians of the Third and Fourth Floors."
A hint of disbelief entered his tone.
"Why are you here?"
Xel’Shaar raised his head and looked directly into the sky.
Unlike the other Stream Hunters, the suppressive effects of Divinity held little influence over him.
As a bearer of the [Authority of Prisoner], he possessed a natural resistance against such oppression.
"I greet you, Master of the Seventh Floor."
Zephiron’s massive eye narrowed.
"Greet me properly."
Thunder rumbled across the heavens.
"I am the Storm Tyrant."
Xel’Shaar remained unmoved.
"Such a title no longer carries meaning, Zephiron."
His ancient and robotic voice echoed calmly under the amplification of mana.
"You are merely the Guardian of the Seventh Floor now."
The nearby Stream Hunters immediately began whispering among themselves.
"Wait... Xel’Shaar? The Third Floor Boss?"
"I don’t remember him looking like that."
"Who is the Fourth Floor Boss Zephiron mentioned?"
"Is there another one here?"
Amidst the growing confusion, the conversation between the ancient beings continued.
Zephiron’s gaze remained fixed on Xel’Shaar.
"You have not answered my question."
The storm clouds churned violently.
"Why are you here? And more importantly... how? You dare interfere with the Tower of Yxthar’s natural order?"
His voice carried a warning.
"That being is not known for mercy!"
Xel’Shaar remained silent for a moment, then he answered.
"The Tower of Yxthar does not concern itself with what occurs within its own floors. We are here because there is something we have desired for a very long time."
Zephiron’s patience visibly thinned.
"Speak plainly."
At that moment, the spear in Xel’Shaar’s hand emitted a faint glow.
A familiar voice echoed out.
"Hehe... you still haven’t figured it out, old fool?"
Kareth Zul finally spoke.
The ancient soul trapped within the spear sounded unusually amused.
"This universe is different."
"The Authorities governing it are [Omniscience], [Omnipotence], and [Omnipresence]."
His voice grew increasingly excited.
"Do you understand what that means?"
"It means every possibility can theoretically exist here. Every idea, every skill, every path, every thought that has ever been imagined, every place that has ever been reached..."
"And every power that has ever existed..."
Kareth Zul laughed.
"And have you noticed the Viewers? There are far more of them than usual. Far more than what gather around ordinary worlds still struggling through the tutorial stages."
The countless messages flooding the streams seemed to prove his point.
Then his tone became serious.
"And beyond all that... There is an anomaly. A very interesting anomaly. One upon whom we have chosen to place our hopes."
Silence followed for several moments.
Zephiron said nothing.
The ancient guardian simply listened before finally choosing to speak.
"You senile old beings."
His voice carried both mockery and curiosity.
"To whom have you entrusted such faith?"
Xel’Shaar did not answer.
Instead, he slowly raised his spear.
The weapon pointed toward the sky.
Toward a single crimson-winged figure.
Toward Adam.
Adam, who had been listening to the conversation in silence, slowly lifted his head.
At the same moment, Zephiron’s gigantic eye turned toward him.
The entire Seventh Floor seemed to hold its breath.
For the first time since the battle began, the Storm Tyrant truly looked at Adam.
The enormous eye hanging within the heavens remained fixed upon him.
Zephiron’s voice echoed throughout the Seventh Floor.
"So this is the anomaly upon which you’ve placed your hopes."
His tone carried neither anger nor amusement... only disappointment.
"I see."
"So you believe coincidences, abnormalities, and anomalous existences are the conditions necessary to reach Yxthar."
Compared to the calm and obedient Xel’Shaar, Kareth Zul immediately took the opportunity to stir trouble.
"Hehe."
The ancient soul laughed from within the spear.
"Does it upset you that your world isn’t special, little god?"
A dangerous silence followed.
Thunder rolled across the sky, yet Zephiron did not lash out.
Instead, he spoke with surprising calmness.
"Your attempts to provoke me are quite impressive."
The Storm Tyrant’s gigantic eye narrowed slightly.
"But no. I simply do not believe this universe is special."
His gaze swept across the floating islands.
"In fact, the very reason I find this universe unremarkable is because of the Authorities that govern it."
"[Omniscience]."
"[Omnipresence]."
"[Omnipotence]."
"The three Authorities encompass nearly every possibility imaginable."
His voice grew louder under the expanse of mana gathering around him.
"When every possibility can exist, anomalies become inevitable."
"When every path can be taken, abnormalities naturally emerge."
"When everything is possible, nothing is truly special."
The sky trembled.
"You should know this better than anyone."
The Storm Tyrant’s gaze landed toward Xel’Shaar and Kareth Zul.
"Have you forgotten what happened during the [War of Life and Death]?"
The atmosphere immediately became heavier.
Even the usually carefree Kareth Zul fell silent.
"The Tower of Yxthar despises anomalies. It despises those who stand outside the natural order. And yet here you are..."
Zephiron’s voice echoed out like distant thunder.
"Placing all your hopes upon one insignificant thing..."
For a moment, the Storm Tyrant seemed genuinely confused before speaking once again.
"Leave."
The command shook the heavens.
"Guardians of the Third and Fourth Floors, you have not abandoned your climb and you still walk the path toward the summit."
His gaze softened slightly.
"I will overlook this transgression."
"Leave now."
However, Xel’Shaar did not move.
For the first time during the conversation, the mechanical guardian spoke with a trace of emotion.
"You may be right."
His metallic voice echoed across the battlefield.
"Perhaps we are fools for placing our hopes upon a single universe."
"Perhaps we are fools for betting our future upon a single possibility."
He tightened his grip around the spear.
"But those who climb the Tower of Yxthar have always been gamblers. We risk death every step of the way. We abandon certainty in exchange for possibility."
His glowing eyes met Zephiron’s.
"Because unlike those who stopped climbing... We never gave up on reaching the summit."
The Storm Tyrant said nothing. Instead, his gaze slowly returned to Adam.
The divine eye lingered on the crimson-winged figure, then Zephiron finally spoke.
"This?"
His voice carried clear disbelief.
"This weak mortal is the one you’ve entrusted your hopes to?"
The pressure in the sky intensified.
"Because he possesses a slight irregularity? Because he was born with talents others lack? Because fortune happened to favor him?"
A faint trace of mockery entered his voice.
"And because of that, you believe the universe that birthed him is special as well?"
The moment those words left Zephiron’s mouth, Adam felt something strange.
It felt as though the Storm Tyrant wasn’t speaking about him...
The more Adam listened, the more it felt as though Zephiron was speaking about himself!
According to the records Adam remembered from his previous life, Zephiron had once been an exceptionally prideful god.
A being who genuinely believed he stood above all others.
A being who believed he was destined to reach the summit of the Tower of Yxthar.
Perhaps long ago, Zephiron had also believed he was special.
Perhaps long ago, he had believed he was chosen.
And perhaps reality had proven otherwise...
The Storm Tyrant’s eye narrowed as a smile appeared within the storm.
A smile filled with challenge.
"Come."
The heavens trembled.
"I shall show you how insignificant you truly are before the endless possibilities contained within the Tower of Yxthar."
The divine pressure exploded outward.
"You are not special, mortal boy."
"You are merely another possibility."
A system notification suddenly appeared before every Stream Hunter.
[The Storm Tyrant has offered half of his existence to the Tower of Yxthar in exchange for the removal of a portion of his seals.]
The entire Seventh Floor froze, and even Adam’s expression changed.
Such an action was madness!
Yet before anyone could react further, another notification appeared.
[The Tower of Yxthar is contemplating.]
