Chapter 4 Game Player Operations
Chapter 4 Game Player Operations
Li En looked down.
The sharp pain in the web of my hand has turned into a dull ache, spreading along my wrist to my forearm, but the feedback is not as strong as I expected.
He opened his palm and then clenched it again, his knuckles making a soft clicking sound.
Okay.
He turned and walked toward the one lying on the ground.
Hearing the sound, the zombie raised its face and stretched out its right hand to grab at Li En.
His fingers clenched and unclenched in the air, with bits of mortar he had just dug out from between the floor tiles still between them.
Li En went around to its side.
This time, I'm aiming for the knees.
A blunt object strikes the knee joint from the side, with the point of impact being the outer edge of the patella.
The knee is a hinge joint. The lateral and medial collateral ligaments restrict lateral movement, the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments restrict anterior and posterior movement, and the meniscus is placed between the femur and tibia.
When you strike from the side with a crowbar, the force is applied directly to the most vulnerable part of the bone.
thump.
This time the sound was crisper, like the cracking of a hard object breaking.
The zombie fell to its side, its face slamming into the floor tiles with a dull thud.
His arms were still flailing, but his lower body was immobile; his legs were dragging behind him, and he had completely lost function below the knees.
The speed at which we climbed forward was at least half that of before.
My hand is fine this time. Hitting the knee is different from hitting the skull. Joint structures don't have the same ability to distribute stress as the skull's spherical surface.
The recoil is barely perceptible.
Li En flexed his fingers that were gripping the crowbar.
When he smelled that odor outside the shop, he only suspected that this was not a pure game; the sweet smell was too tangible.
The game has no sense of smell.
Then came the reaction force of the crowbar impact, the stinging pain in the tiger's mouth when the skull was hit, the crisp cracking sound when the knee was hit, and the slight fatigue in the muscles between the two blows.
These physical feedbacks piled up one after another, each telling him the same fact.
This is a complete yet distorted world.
The zombies' locations, the shop layout, and the gameplay of Resident Evil 2 are the same, but the skull's hardness and the game's hit detection frame rate are two different things.
The error is within an acceptable range.
Enough data has been collected.
He flipped the crowbar over, gripping the flat, curved end with the pointed tip facing outwards.
The metal tip has rust marks, beneath which lies a layer of dark gray original steel.
Walk up to the zombie with the broken leg, bend down, and aim the tip of the crowbar at the back of the zombie's head—below the occipital bone, in the gap between the first and second cervical vertebrae.
The location of the medulla oblongata.
The lowest part of the brainstem is the center that controls heartbeat and breathing, the last pathway for signals from the brain to the body.
Smash it through, and everything will stop.
The pointed end pierced down.
puff.
The sound of metal piercing soft tissue was very soft, unexpectedly soft.
The pointed tip passes through the foramen magnum and enters the cranial cavity.
The zombie raised its arms, dangling them in mid-air, its fingers spasmodically spread open.
Then it fell down, hit the ground, and stopped moving.
Li En pulled the crowbar outwards, its tip covered with a layer of grayish-white paste mixed with dark blood clots.
He leaned the crowbar against the shelf, took out his pistol again with his right hand, and held the flashlight in his left.
The beam of light swept across the entrance of the convenience store. It was still raining outside, and the overhead lights of the gas station cast a blurry orange glow in the rain.
There were no new people, no new sounds.
He stood beside the shelf, breathing steadily, the muzzle of his gun pointed diagonally at the ground, waiting quietly.
Claire will come.
According to the Resident Evil 2 storyline, she should appear at this gas station tonight.
Li En's gun was pointed at the door.
Glock's crosshair remained stationary within the door frame.
Rain dripped from the tin roof, casting intermittent bright lines in the beam of a flashlight.
A red figure flashed into the doorway.
The beam of the flashlight shone directly on her face.
She immediately raised her hands.
"Don't shoot!"
"Squat down."
When Li En said those two words, the gun barrel did not move.
The red figure's knees bent, and its center of gravity lowered.
Her hands were still raised, elbows tucked in, protecting the sides of her head.
This posture made her curl up into a red ball at the convenience store entrance.
Li En's gaze went over the top of her head.
boom.
The slide recoils, and the muzzle rises.
Eleven meters away, there was a hole in the zombie's left eye socket.
The entry edge was clean, with no obvious tearing around it, and the bullet entered vertically.
The zombie's body fell straight backward, splashing water as it hit the puddle.
The pistol has a 100% hit rate within a 15-meter range.
It wasn't that he believed it; it was his wrists, elbows, shoulder blades, and cervical spine that knew the distance.
By the time the crosshair is on, the body is already doing the rest.
He picked up the crowbar, held the flashlight in his left hand and the crowbar in his right, and walked to stand next to the red figure.
The beam of light swept towards the gas station.
Most of the lights on the roof of the gas station were off, except for the innermost one, which was still flashing, turning on and off intermittently, and making a hissing sound when it was on.
The rain reduced the range of the light beams, making the effective field of vision only about one-third of that on a sunny day.
But that's enough.
Shadows, one, two, three, dragged their feet toward this area from the direction of the road, in the area illuminated by car headlights.
There were at least three zombies surrounding his car.
"Thank you," the red figure stood up.
She glanced at the fallen zombie, then her gaze shifted to Li En's face, and her lips moved slightly.
"My name is Claire."
Li En didn't look at her.
"Get in the car."
After he finished speaking, he ran towards the car of the two police officers in the store.
He got into the driver's seat, and as he closed the door, he inserted the key into the ignition and turned it clockwise all the way.
The sound of the engine starting was half drowned out by the sound of rain and the howls of zombies.
Claire was still standing at the entrance of the convenience store.
"Don't just stand there!"
Li En's voice pierced through the rain.
Claire rushed out from under the eaves of the convenience store. She opened the passenger door, but before she could even fully sit down, the door was already pulling back.
Li En gripped the steering wheel with both hands, pressed the clutch with his left foot, and tapped the accelerator with his right foot.
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, pull up the handbrake, and the rear wheels lock up.
The front wheels traced an arc on the slippery cement ground, and the front of the car turned 180 degrees.
As I released the handbrake, I pressed the accelerator harder, causing the tires to spin half a turn before gripping the ground, and the entire car was launched off the side of the gas station.
The car veered onto the road.
The windshield wipers started working, swinging left and right to wipe the rainwater off the windshield to the sides.
The wiper blades made a squeaking sound as they passed over the glass. With each swing, the view was clear for half a second before being blurred again by new rain.
Li En reduced the speed to 35 km/h, stabilized the engine speed at 1,800 rpm, and shifted to third gear.
He held the steering wheel with one hand and rested his left hand on the bottom edge of the car window.
In the rearview mirror, the gas station lights grew farther and farther away, eventually shrinking into a tiny dot before being swallowed by the rain.
Zombies at the gas station, a police officer with his neck bitten through in the warehouse, and civilians pinned against the wall.
Claire rushed in through the rain; all the conditions were met.
This is a real game world.
However, the physical rules are complete, the hardness of a zombie's skull needs to be measured by oneself, the reaction force of a crowbar will numb the tiger's mouth, and the temperature of rainwater and the sweet smell of gasoline will simultaneously fill the nasal cavity.
These details are not simulated by the game, but their existence does not affect the underlying logic:
The plot points, character appearances, and event sequence all follow the timeline he remembers.
"My name is Leon." His voice was muffled by the engine noise and the sound of rain, but it was clear enough.
"Reporting to the Raccoon City Police Department today."
Claire's head kept turning.
Look at the left window, look at the right window, look at the rearview mirror.
Every time I turn my head, my wet ponytail flicks, leaving a small watermark on the headrest of the seat.
Not seeing those lunatics, her shoulders slumped, and she nestled her head into the headrest, saying:
"Are you a police officer?"
Li En nodded in response, "I was just transferred here and am on my way to report for duty."
"Are you a resident of Raccoon City?"
Claire turned her head to examine Li En's profile, but saw no expression on his face.
He had just fired a shot at someone's face, and now he was gripping the steering wheel with one hand, completely unwavering, his composure bordering on excessive.
She thought about her older brother Chris, who was just like that, and felt relieved.
"I am not a resident here."
"Come find my brother, he's a policeman too."
Li En suddenly turned the steering wheel all the way to the right.
The tires made a brief screeching sound on the wet road surface.
Claire's shoulder slammed against the inside of the car door, the leather jacket squeaking against the plastic door panel.
The car turned 180 degrees, and the debris on the back seat slid from the left to the right and hit the car door.
Then I pressed the accelerator, the engine revved up, and the car drove in the exact opposite direction from before.
Claire's right hand rested on the dial.
"Hey!" Her voice rose, then fell back halfway through.
"What are you doing?"
"There's clearly something wrong here now," Lee said calmly.
"I have no idea what happened."
"I'm going to the next town."
"But..." Claire withdrew her hand from the dial and clenched it into a fist, placing it on her knee.
"I'm going to the police station to find my brother."
The car headlights illuminated a road sign with a green background and white lettering: 7 Miles in Raccoon City.
The road sign swept past the roof of the car and disappeared behind, then the lights of the gas station reappeared ahead.
The zombies were still there; several of them turned their heads toward the road as soon as they heard the engine.
Li En pointed to the gas station.
"Look at the state of them."
The car drove past the gas station, about ten meters away.
"It would be better to go to the next town and ask for help."
Claire's lips pressed into a thin line.
Seeing that she still seemed to want to say something, Lee Eun spoke first:
"You can go if you want."
"This car is yours once we reach the next town."
Claire glanced at the rearview mirror; the gas station lights were no longer visible, only a uniform blackness remained.
Then he turned back and stared at the patterns of rainwater flowing on the windshield.
It takes half an hour to get from here to the next town.
Half an hour later, the car was returned to her.
The steering wheel was in her hands, the accelerator was at her feet, and she could drive wherever she wanted.
The policeman next to me was unwilling to take the risk, and I couldn't force him to.
The car headlights illuminated another road sign: You have left Raccoon City.
The town's boundary appeared in the rain.
First, there were scattered houses, with warm yellow lights shining behind the curtains, then a crossroads where traffic lights changed colors regularly in the rain.
Then there was a main street, most of the shops on both sides were closed, only one convenience store had its lights on, and a bar with a sign in red handwritten letters, half of the light bulbs were broken, and only the right half was lit.
Li En parked the car on the side of the road, pulled up the handbrake, and turned off the engine.
The key was pulled out of the ignition hole, its metal teeth still warm from the engine's operation.
He put the key in the cup holder.
"Good luck."
As soon as the car door opened, rainwater rushed in, hitting the edge of the seat and splashing onto the back of his hand.
He got out of the car and closed the door, his voice half-swallowed by the rain.
Claire moved from the passenger seat to the driver's seat.
Grip the steering wheel, fingers curled, insert the key into the ignition, and the engine restarts.
She glanced at the rearview mirror.
Li En stood by the roadside, rainwater streaming down his shoulders and dripping onto the ground along the hem of his clothes.
The car drove away, its taillights stretching into two red lines in the rain, growing thinner and thinner until it disappeared around a bend.
Li En turned and walked into the main street of the town, heading towards the bar. He reached out, grasped the doorknob, and turned it.
Darkness enveloped my vision, but my eyesight was quickly restored.
He stood in the bathroom, his right hand still gripping the doorknob.
I cleared the game as expected.
He stood quietly in place, facing the mirror.
About five minutes, maybe a little longer, there was no clock in the bathroom, and my phone wasn't on me.
Characters appear on the retina.
[Instance: Resident Evil 2]
Rating: F
[Reward: Title - Rookie Police Officer]
There's an additional section below: the term section.
[Rookie Officer - Wearing Effect: Driving Skill +1, Shooting Accuracy +1]
[Next entry time: 240 hours]
It remains very simple and clear, nothing more.
Two hundred and forty hours, ten days.
The light screen remained for about ten minutes, much longer than when the instance was first opened.
He remained motionless for the entire ten minutes, facing the mirror.
The light curtain disappeared.
He walked to the sink, turned on the faucet, scooped up a handful of water with both hands, and slapped it on his face.
Water dripped from his chin onto the tiled floor, making a soft pattering sound.
What just happened confirmed three things.
First, he does indeed have a cheat.
It's not a hallucination, not a dream, not a side effect of time travel.
He pushed open the bathroom door and entered the world of Resident Evil 2.
Secondly, that world is a real game world.
The plot points, characters, and events follow the order of the game, but the physical rules are complete, the characters have autonomous consciousness, and violence will produce realistic physiological reactions.
Most importantly, it is not mandatory.
He chose not to go to the Raccoon City Police Department, and nothing unexpected happened to stop him.
He chose to give the car to Claire and then went into the bar; the system did not detect that he had deviated from the plan.
The completion evaluation does not follow the storyline; its standards are likely more fundamental and core.
For example, obtaining information about the Umbrella Corporation in Raccoon City or virus samples.
Third, evaluation and rewards are linked, with rewards being ability-related terms.
The F rating corresponds to the lowest level of reward: a negligible attribute, +1 to driving skills, and +1 to shooting accuracy.
Useful, but not much.
His shooting accuracy is already 100% within 15 meters, so adding this 1% makes no difference for now.
but.
This was just a test.
He chose the most conservative route: confirm his identity, collect equipment, verify the rules of the world, and then escape.
Running away is the fastest way to pass the level, but also the way to get the lowest reward.
The next entry will be in ten days.
Characters, zombies, and Claire appear at the gas station.
Proving prior gaming experience can be very helpful.
This is also why Lee Eun couldn't help but smile before.
He's ranked number one in the world for speedrunning Resident Evil.
He turned on the tap and wiped the water droplets off his chin with the back of his hand.
Ten days later, I will complete the game in one life and get the highest rating.
The ability attribute you get when you get it will definitely not be that of a rookie police officer.
