Chapter 458: Dual Kamui
Chapter 458: Dual Kamui
Knock knock!
The sound of fingers tapping on the wooden door rang out.
Nagasawa, who was working, looked up and said, "Come in."
What surprised him, though, was the visitor, it wasn’t another staff member asking about a project. It was Obito Uchiha.
He wore ordinary clothes bearing the Uchiha clan crest, with his long bangs covering one hollow eye socket.
Since Obito already had a clear plan for what he wanted to do, Nagasawa hadn’t assigned him an official position. Instead, he simply gave him a Training Division vest, making it easier for him to move around.
Obito closed the door behind him as he entered.
Nagasawa asked, "Obito, what brings you here?"
If it weren’t important, Obito wouldn’t come to the Hokage Office during work hours, he could just visit Nagasawa at home later.
Sure enough, Obito nodded and said, "I’ve handled everything I needed to in Konoha, so I want to go to the Land of Rain and investigate things there."
Thanks to Nagasawa, things in Konoha were smooth, he had access to all the resources he needed.
Finding people wasn’t the hard part, the real effort had gone into how to compensate them. After all, it would be strange to show up at someone’s door and randomly hand them money.
Still, with Nagasawa’s help, Obito had made good progress on the path to reparations.
In fact, the number of people who had died as a result of Obito’s past actions wasn’t that high. Nagasawa had been planning for the Nine-Tails Night ever since activating his system. Aside from the unexpected variable Afei, who caused the deaths of a few prison guards, the only other casualties were the three ANBU stationed outside Kushina’s delivery room.
So with few deaths and significant help, Obito made quick progress and just needed to maintain the current course. Thus, he wanted to head to the Land of Rain as soon as possible.
The situation in the Land of Rain was very different from Konoha.
There, no one would grant him convenient access to information, he couldn’t just walk in and request documents.
Worse still, Nagato’s Akatsuki was based in the Land of Rain. It might look calm on the surface, but it was teeming with danger underneath.
Obito had come clean to Nagasawa about Zetsu, Uchiha Madara, and Akatsuki.
Though Nagasawa, who had visited parallel worlds, probably already knew more than him, Obito still felt it necessary to share everything he knew.
He explained Madara’s plan, collect all nine Tailed Beasts, use the Rinnegan’s Outer Path to revive Madara, turn him into the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, plant a God Tree, and cast Infinite Tsukuyomi.
As Obito expected, Nagasawa wasn’t surprised, instead, he reassured Obito that everything was already part of his plan.
"This visit is to say goodbye," Obito said.
He made sure to inform Nagasawa partly out of respect, Nagasawa had helped him see the light and offered immense support, and partly to avoid any misunderstanding that he was fleeing.
He knew that if Nagasawa misinterpreted his departure, he might end up getting tracked, beaten, and interrogated before he even arrived in the Land of Rain.
And Nagasawa’s punches really hurt.
"Heading to the Land of Rain, huh..." Nagasawa fell into thought.
He wasn’t worried about Obito feigning surrender or fleeing, he was thinking about Black Zetsu.
That so-called Light Shinobi Village had emerged sooner than expected. Since Nagasawa had been paying attention, intel about this newly formed village had been delivered to him.
Seeing the name Yahiko listed as the leader made Nagasawa choke with disbelief.
Oh, come on, Nagato. You look down on transmigrators so much you just named the leader Yahiko? Don’t even bother hiding it anymore.
This unexpected development didn’t rattle Nagasawa. He never cared about preserving canon, he’d long since abandoned that for the advantage of foresight.
To him, power was the true edge. Let Black Zetsu play all the games he wanted, Nagasawa would crush them all with strength.
What’s the point of being this strong if you still let tragic canon events repeat?
Thanks to Nagasawa, many of those tragedies had already been rewritten.
Naruto had a happy childhood and a complete family. Kabuto never fell into darkness from accidentally killing Nono. Shisui and Itachi no longer had to suffer caught between Konoha and the Uchiha. Iruka hadn’t lost his parents...
Nagasawa had changed a lot. The entire Shinobi World was shifting because of him.
He wasn’t just a butterfly effect, he was a typhoon ripping through the story.
So what if a "Light Shinobi Village" appeared? He wouldn’t blink if "Dark Shinobi Village" and "White Shinobi Village" popped up too.
While the development of Nagato and the others did align with some of Nagasawa’s long-term plans, he still decided to give Obito some tools before his departure.
"If you’re going to the Land of Rain, you know it’s dangerous. Let’s give you a Sharingan transplant first," Nagasawa said after some thought.
Obito assumed Nagasawa just meant returning the Sharingan eye he’d once taken, so he didn’t say anything.
After all, Kamui was an incredibly versatile jutsu, it wasn’t just a lifesaver; it was perfect for travel and infiltration.
But when Nagasawa brought him to the operating room, Obito was surprised to see Kakashi Hatake there too.
The two old comrades locked eyes and instantly understood each other.
"Kakashi, is my Sharingan not working for you anymore?" Obito asked, puzzled.
Since Nagasawa had mentioned giving the eye back, there was only one reason Kakashi would be here, to return it.
"Of course it works. Your Sharingan is powerful and useful," Kakashi replied with a smile, patting Obito’s shoulder. "But it’s your eye. You’re not dead, why should I still be using it? I’m not the type to cling to a friend’s power."
"Besides, you said it yourself. The Mangekyō Sharingan only unleashes its full power when you have a pair."
Indeed, Kamui was an incredible ability. You didn’t even need to take out the trash, just warp it away. It could even bend chakra alloy created by Nagasawa, and so far, nothing had resisted it.
Not to mention the Mangekyō Sharingan offered other enhancements that drastically boosted combat capability.
Still, Kakashi wasn’t someone who lusted for power. He preferred growing stronger through his own efforts.
He had his pride, he wasn’t going to rely on Obito’s eye forever. After all, he was still the genius of Konoha.
"We can fight together. That’s still power," Obito said after a pause.
"Don’t be silly. I’ve got a family now. I don’t have time to go fight with you every day," Kakashi joked.
Obito fell silent, lowering his head.
The operating room was simple, even the bed had thick black chains, hinting at a dark history.
Of course, this wasn’t a Konoha Hospital room, it was in Orochimaru’s base.
If a Konoha hospital had beds like these, Nagasawa might have to investigate...
Not long after, Obito sighed and told Orochimaru to begin the procedure.
Maybe it was Kakashi’s words triggering old memories, or maybe it was seeing his once single friend now married with kids while he remained alone. Either way, Obito’s sigh carried a deep melancholy.
Orochimaru didn’t care about sentiment. In his raspy voice, he instructed Kakashi and Obito to lie down, donned gloves, and began the surgery.
Though Naruto ninja had insane durability and could swap eyes mid-battle, Nagasawa preferred a proper medical process.
He had already discussed this with Kakashi, who had wanted to return the eye. So Nagasawa asked Orochimaru to help, removing Kakashi’s Sharingan and replacing it with a normal eye.
After administering anesthesia, Orochimaru started with Kakashi, removing the Sharingan and transplanting a regular eye.
Then he transplanted both Mangekyō Sharingan into Obito.
One extra Three-Tomoe Sharingan remained. Orochimaru carefully stored it, Nagasawa had said he wanted it for research.
It was impressive, in the real world, this surgery would take ages to recover from.
But Kakashi and Obito stood up immediately, acting like nothing had happened, looking around the room.
"Without the Mangekyō Sharingan, your vision will decline. You’ll need to retrain without the Sharingan," Orochimaru warned Kakashi.
Even a Three-Tomoe Sharingan provided vastly superior vision, let alone the Mangekyō.
The sudden loss in perception could cause mistakes in combat, even mess up jutsu like Chidori, which required precise visual tracking.
Fortunately, Kakashi still had Haki, which sometimes offered better perception than even the Sharingan.
"I understand. Thank you, Lord Orochimaru," Kakashi replied, rubbing his new eye.
He really did feel disoriented, like switching from ultra-HD to 720p when your premium subscription expires.
"How do you both feel?" Nagasawa asked.
"A bit off, but overall fine. I’ll get used to it soon," Kakashi answered.
"I feel amazing. A power I’ve never felt before is surging inside me," Obito said, eyes opening to reveal his triple-shuriken Mangekyō Sharingan.
He felt incredibly strong, far more than before. His Kamui was faster and more precise.
He also now understood his left eye’s Kamui ability, long-range spatial attacks. Combined with his right eye’s intangibility, it formed a perfect offense-defense synergy.
He could even feel something new awakening, the Uchiha clan’s divine power,
Susano’o.
"As expected, the Sharingan truly shines as a pair," Obito murmured.
He hadn’t trained or learned anything new, just reclaimed his own eyes, and his power had skyrocketed.
He now felt he could face Nagato without fear. As for other Akatsuki members? No longer worth worrying about.
"You both seem fine. Kakashi, take a week off. Paid leave from the Training Division," Nagasawa said generously.
Kakashi’s eyes lit up. He thanked Nagasawa, it was too good to be true. He wasn’t even injured, just a little unaccustomed to the change, and yet he got a whole week off.
He went home in high spirits, eager to share the good news with his family.
Meanwhile, Nagasawa took Obito to assign him his next mission.
"Since you’re heading to the Land of Rain, check on Akatsuki. If possible, look into the Land of Fields too. Akatsuki may have moved there. That new Light Shinobi Village must be Nagato’s doing," Nagasawa instructed.
"Understood. I will," Obito nodded.
"Also, Nagasawa-senpai... I’d like to try and talk to Nagato. Help him see his mistakes. He’s really just a man blinded by hate and manipulation," Obito said.
He still felt guilty. Nagato’s descent into darkness had been partly his fault. While he hadn’t killed Yahiko, he had slaughtered the Akatsuki members who went to aid him.
"If you want to try, go ahead. It’d be great if you succeeded," Nagasawa replied.
He was suddenly curious, if Nagato also defected, who would Black Zetsu have left?
No matter how cunning Black Zetsu was, he couldn’t pull powerhouses out of thin air.
Otherwise, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki would have been revived long ago.
In fact, even after thousands of years, Black Zetsu had only managed to produce a single Rinnegan through Madara, and even then, it had almost failed, if not for Madara awakening it right before his death.
