Chapter 28 The Monster in the Black Lake
Chapter 28 The Monster in the Black Lake
"So, we're following in the footsteps of those great sages?"
"Wow, that's so cool!"
The excited little wizards chattered incessantly, breaking the fear brought by the darkness.
Hermione proudly raised her head and winked at Chu Yang, subtly showing off.
To keep her in line, Chu Yang was about to praise her when an untimely voice suddenly rang out.
"Look! That little Muggle from a Muggle family is explaining the history of Hogwarts to a real wizard?!"
"How utterly laughable!"
A small boat drifted by from the side, carrying three boys. The two boys on either side were tall and much stronger than Neville.
Between the two sat a blond boy, quite handsome, but with a sinister look in his eyes, who seemed to have ill intentions.
The blond boy said in a deep voice, "You Mudbloods from lowly Muggle families are not worthy to speak of the four great wizards, especially the great Salazar Slytherin."
"None of your business!" Hermione trembled with anger. Since entering the wizarding world, the thing she hated most was people saying that her parents were Muggles.
How could you use such vicious words?
The usually taciturn and timid Neville, contrary to his usual self, angrily berated the blond boy.
"What does Mudblood mean?" Hermione paused, instinctively sensing that it was a bad word.
Neville hesitated for a moment, then whispered a few words in Hermione's ear. Hermione's expression suddenly changed, and her eyes turned red.
Chu Yang narrowed his eyes and stared coldly at the blond boy. There was obviously only one person among the freshmen who could say such vicious things: Draco Malfoy!
Ordinary young wizards might not know anything about the new students at Hogwarts, but Draco Malfoy was different.
His family is a very prestigious family in the history of Hogwarts, and his father, Lucius Malfoy, is one of the Hogwarts Board of Governors. Obtaining the list of new students in advance and trying to befriend and win over the prestigious wizarding families on the list is a common tactic of the Malfoy family.
When Lucius Malfoy saw that there were two new students from Muggle families on the list, he threw a huge tantrum at Draco Malfoy.
Every member of the Malfoy family graduated from Slytherin House at Hogwarts and highly regards the bloodline theory of Salazar Slytherin, the founder of the house.
They all believed that only pure-blood wizards were qualified to learn and use magic.
Chu Yang found this quite amusing.
According to their thinking, the first wizard in the world to discover and use magic was not qualified to use magic at all.
Because his parents were both Muggles...
Without the first Muggle-born wizards who pioneered the path of magic and exchanged ideas with each other, where would wizard families have come from?
This is completely different from the chicken-or-egg question.
Muggle-born wizards and pure-blood families must have come first.
Unable to contain his anger after being met with Hermione's firm retort, Malfoy began hurling vicious insults at her.
"Is this the etiquette of a pure-blood wizard? Using foul language to insult others at the slightest disagreement?" Chu Yang sneered, "I've only ever seen similar behavior from thugs on the streets of London. Your upbringing is truly worrying."
Draco Malfoy's face flushed red, and he stood up abruptly, roaring, "I only speak politely to wizards, you lowly creatures..."
Before Malfoy could finish speaking, the small boat rocked violently, and he almost fell off. Fortunately, Goyle, who was next to him, reacted quickly and pulled him back.
At this moment, the intertwined roots of trees are constantly breaking through the soil at the bottom of the lake.
Under the moonlight, the branches emerging from the lake were gradually entangled in Malfoy's small boat, causing it to slow down and eventually come to a stop on the lake, where it began to rock violently.
"Damn it! What's going on? Wasn't this lake supposed to be completely safe?" Malfoy gripped the side of the boat tightly, shouting hysterically, terrified out of his wits.
The branches entangled the area more and more, and in the blink of an eye, the three people on the boat lost their footing.
Hagrid, who was at the very front, then noticed the strange thing behind him, his eyes wide as he exclaimed, "My God, what the hell is that?"
The dark lake surface was shrouded in a hazy glow under the moonlight.
To Hagrid, the branches and vines on the small boat looked more like the tentacles of some kind of monster, constantly rocking the boat in an attempt to get Malfoy and his companions off the boat.
"Damn it, what do I do? I didn't bring my wand!" Hagrid panicked. He hadn't brought his "broken umbrella" shaped wand when he went out today, since he was just picking up and dropping off students and it wasn't necessary.
But now that an emergency has occurred, he is completely helpless.
Just as Hagrid was regretting not bringing his wand, Malfoy and his two companions on the other side finally couldn't hold on any longer and fell into the water like dumplings being dropped into a pot.
Glug~ Glug~ Glug~
Malfoy desperately tried to grab the small boat, but his feet got tangled in the branches of a tree in the lake and he was pulled down hard.
Glug~ Glug~ Glug~
Malfoy was like tripe in a hot pot, bobbing up and down in the water, and every time he tried to call for help, lake water would pour into his mouth.
Compared to Malfoy, his two companions Goyle and Crabbe fared much better; although they also fell into the lake, they quickly climbed back onto the boat.
Strangely, the ship stopped rocking after Malfoy fell in.
Apart from being completely soaked, they were not injured.
The same thought arose in Goyle and Crabbe's minds at the same time—the "monster" in the lake seemed to be targeting Malfoy alone!
Thinking of this, Goyle and Crabbe both looked at Chu Yang and Hermione, who had just had a conflict with Malfoy.
As a result, he happened to meet Chu Yang's cold gaze.
The two of them shuddered at the same time and quickly lowered their heads, not daring to look at each other a second time.
Terrified that he would be eaten by the "monster" in the lake, Malfoy immediately burst into tears, crying, "Save me! Please save me! I don't want to be eaten by the monster! I'll save you no matter who it is!"
"Goll! Crabbe!"
In despair, Malfoy called out the names of his companions.
Goyle instinctively moved closer to Malfoy, bent down and pressed himself against the side of the boat, ready to pull him up.
As a result, the boat rocked violently again, and Gore screamed and fell into the lake once more!
Crabbe, who was standing nearby, was so frightened that he quickly moved away from Malfoy and pretended to be indifferent in order to escape the disaster.
He was now certain that the "monster" was targeting Malfoy.
After Goyle climbed back onto the small boat, having learned his lesson, he began to imitate Crabbe, pretending not to hear Malfoy's cries for help.
Poor Malfoy is almost full from drinking water...
When Hermione first saw Malfoy fall into the water, she felt incredibly relieved, as if all the anger in her heart had been released.
However, over time, she began to worry that the other person might be in danger. After all, she was just an 11-year-old girl, innocent and kind.
Hermione asked anxiously, "Why didn't his companions go to rescue him? They're both so strong, either of them could have easily pulled him onto the boat."
Chu Yang glanced at her with considerable surprise. "He was hurling such nasty insults at you, and you were still worried about him? It's only been a short while, and you're already not angry anymore?"
"Of course I'm angry!" Hermione said matter-of-factly. "But I don't want to resent a dead man. Only if he's alive can I find a chance to get revenge on him!"
Chu Yang wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. The old saying was absolutely true: the prettier the girl, the more vengeful she is. Don't mess with her easily.
