Chapter 29 Boys' Night Talk
Chapter 29 Boys' Night Talk
Throughout August, ever since he learned of the existence of the wizarding world, the school life that Harry had always longed for at the Dursleys' house unfolded before him in a way he never expected.
Because of past train derailments, Hogwarts' teaching activities have inevitably been affected.
Dumbledore decided to set the start of the new term on Thursday and to hold a formal welcome dinner on Wednesday evening to give the young wizards ample time to recover from their injuries and soothe their frightened hearts.
Most of the young wizards were moved to their dormitories on the night of the disaster, but Harry was not.
Despite his repeated insistence that he had only bumped his forehead twice and bled a little, the stern witch-like doctor at the school hospital, dressed as a nun, refused to let him off the hook—
"It was just a little blood?!"
After spending the entire Monday day cooped up in the school hospital, Harry, unable to bear it any longer on Tuesday morning, submitted his application to leave. When Dr. Pomfrey gave him a 'terrifying' look, she...
"Such a severe collision could very well have caused a concussion, Mr. Potter. I have to take responsibility for you!"
"But!"
Harry glanced at the glass door of the school hospital, where his new friend Ron pressed his freckled nose against the glass, gazing at him expectantly.
"I know I don't have a concussion, Ms. Pomfrey!"
Harry protested angrily, eager to get to know Hogwarts more thoroughly with Ron.
"Oh, your word doesn't count."
Ms. Pomfrey threw a remark at him and turned to leave.
Nevertheless, after an examination on Tuesday night, the impartial Ms. Pomfrey let him go.
Unlike when he was in Muggle school, where many classmates who didn't think Dudley was particularly strange avoided him because of his intimidating physique.
At Hogwarts, in his newly enrolled Gryffindor house, he became very close to his four roommates in just one night.
The four are Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, and Seamus Finigan.
First, there's Ron. When Harry first met him on the train, he thought Ron was a clumsy guy, but after spending a short time with him, Harry changed his mind.
Ron is not clumsy; on the contrary, he is very clever and loyal.
During his conversations with the others, Harry learned that when his scar started to hurt on the train and everyone else was terrified, Ron was the first to rush over and hold him down. He also told Neville to go find his prefect brother.
Speaking of Neville, he was Harry's second roommate on the train.
After spending some time together, Harry thought Neville was a boy who was "true to his word," always exuding a sense of panic, and clearly the kind of person who was particularly prone to creating trouble for himself.
However, he believes that Neville also has some very clever aspects.
That is, he always manages to find out information that they can't (Harry thinks this might be due to his harmless appearance).
"Zakaris told me about this."
In the boys' dormitory, several boys were chatting around a bright candlelight. Naturally, their conversation revolved around the disaster they had just experienced and the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Mr. Ares Delfino, who had saved their lives.
"He was assigned to Hufflepuff, where he broke his ribs in a train accident—"
Neville's chubby face flickered with the reflected candlelight as he spoke to them in a boisterous tone,
"He said that before Professor Delfino succeeded the previous professor, he ran a shop called 'Yorozuya' in Diagon Alley!"
【Everything House】?
Harry had been quite surprised by Professor Quirrell's robbery of Gringotts, the goblin pub where he had shaken hands with him at the Leaky Cauldron, so when Neville mentioned it, he was more curious about what the "Odd Jobs Shop" represented... whether it was a specialty shop in the wizarding world, like Ollivanders Wand Shop or Quidditch Boutique.
"How did he know?"
Seamus blinked curiously—this was Harry's third roommate, from a magical family like Ron, and a very friendly boy.
"Oh, because the shop Professor Delfino runs belongs to Zacharias's grandmother—he had heard from her that there was a wizard named Ares Delfino who was always behind on rent... He remembered it immediately when he learned Professor Delfino's full name."
"What I really want to know is, what exactly is the 'Yorozuya'?"
Harry's last roommate, Dean Thomas, said that he was one of only two boys in the dorm who grew up in the Muggle world and was particularly passionate about football. The first thing he did upon moving into the dorm was to put up a poster of his favorite team on his bedside table.
"Sounds like a general store, selling everything?"
Ron shrugged, then said in a troubled tone,
"Percy seems to know more about this professor. Yesterday at lunch in the Great Hall... oh, you were still in the university hospital then, Harry."
Ron said,
"I was talking to Fred and George about Professor Delfino's magic that stopped the train... a lot of people were talking about it, and then Percy chimed in, like... oh, you don't know Percy, he's always so mysterious. He hinted that he knew more about Professor Delfino, but when you actually asked him, he wouldn't say a word!"
"It seems like the older students all know this—"
Neville blinked his bright eyes, a look of confusion on his brow.
"But like Percy, they didn't want to say much."
Could that brilliant professor be hiding some important secret?
In the sudden silence, Harry pondered with immense curiosity—how could he not be curious?
He witnessed firsthand how Professor Delfino stopped the train, a spectacular scene that no Muggle movie he had ever seen could depict!
To some extent, this almost shaped his understanding of magic!
"Perhaps you could ask Hagrid!"
Ron snapped out of his troubled expression and looked at Harry with sudden excitement.
"He must know what secrets Professor Delfino's past holds—Hagrid was already here when my parents were studying at Hogwarts."
Hagrid invited you to his place for tea tomorrow, right? You could ask him... Can I come with you to see Hagrid? I want to see what Percy is trying to hide."
"Of course, no problem."
Thinking about tomorrow's meeting, Harry's mood brightened somewhat. He nodded readily, looked at his friends, and extended a friendly invitation.
"Anyone else want to join?"
Dean and Seamus clearly weren't very interested; they just wanted Harry and Ron to tell them what they had found out.
"I want to go—"
Neville pouted, lowered his head, and touched the bumps on Leif's body, looking quite aggrieved.
"But I can't go. I have to ask Mrs. Pomfrey if she has any experience in treating toads... It hasn't eaten anything for two days, after it ate Professor Delfino's fly."
