Chapter 574 Interference Exercises
Saturday also happened to be Hogsmeade Day, and thankfully Umbridge did not cancel this rare relaxing event.
Early that morning, the students lined up at the entrance of the Great Hall, where three professors led them to Hogsmeade Village.
Hermione was among them. Before they set off, Harry gave her a piece of parchment with the names of many sweets written on it, all of which he and Ron wanted to eat. He asked Hermione to help buy some and bring them back during Hogsmeade Week.
Hermione didn't really want to go; she wasn't that interested in Hogsmeade and preferred to spend the weekend reading more books at the library.
But last night, Siron rejected her offer and did not want to teach the Defense Against the Dark Arts course as a student.
However, Sheryl recommended a more suitable person to Hermione—Cedric Diggory.
Hermione planned to take advantage of Hogsmeade Week to have a chat with Cedric, and the two had arranged to meet at the Three Brooms that morning.
"Shillon, why don't you agree?" Harry asked back in the common room. "Hermione's suggestion is good; I think we should give it a try."
"That's really good; at least some people can learn something useful." Xiren nodded.
"Then why did you refuse?" Harry asked. "I feel you're more suitable than Cedric. After all, last year the Goblet of Fire chose you to be the Hogwarts Champion, not Cedric."
“But Cedric is more patient than I am,” Celen said. “Besides, I have to make wands, prepare for the 0.WL exam, and practice Apparition, so it’s hard to find time to teach a group of people—who may have ulterior motives, I don’t know.”
"Some ulterior motive?" Harry asked. "People who are willing to come must want to learn something real, right?"
“That might be true at first, but it might not be so later,” Celen said. “If it were just a few people, I certainly wouldn’t refuse. But Hermione wants to get more people involved, even to develop it into a new course, and there are too many people.”
"Isn't this good?"
"More people means a greater risk of exposure. If there are more than twenty people, Umbridge will definitely find out." Siren walked through the passage behind the portrait of the fat lady and came to the corridor of the castle.
"We can hide from him; Fred and George have a plan." Harry thought of what they had done the night before a few days ago.
“That’s true, but Umbridge can’t possibly come looking for us alone.” Celen turned into a secluded corridor on the left. “She might issue a new education decree, threatening others with expulsion.”
"I'm not afraid of her tricks!" Harry said immediately.
"That's just because you're not afraid." Siren glanced at Harry. "Not everyone is like you. Some people are afraid of being expelled, and then they'll have other ideas. At that time, it will be very important to know how to keep those afraid students calm."
"In this respect, Cedric, as the president of the boys' student council, is more suitable than I am—ah, we've arrived."
Harry looked up and realized they were standing in a corridor he had almost never been to before.
This is indeed a remote place, but—
Harry looked around but found there wasn't a single classroom nearby. No matter how remote the place was, they couldn't possibly practice magic in the corridor.
More importantly, Hermione had previously stated that Apparate is forbidden at Hogwarts, so how are they supposed to practice it?
Siren didn't explain Harry's question; he just paced back and forth along the corridor, silently repeating to himself.
"I need a place to practice Apparition—a place to practice Apparition—"
They walked back and forth like that three times.
Harry suddenly noticed that a door had appeared on the previously blank wall.
He rubbed his eyes hard. Yes, it was a door.
Before he could figure out what was going on, Xilun had already grabbed the brass handle, opened the door, and gone inside.
Harry quickly followed.
Inside was a very spacious room, almost like an auditorium, with strange things scattered all over the floor.
"Where is this?" he asked. "How did it just appear?"
"The Room of Requirement," Celan said. "It appears when you really need it, and it always meets your needs."
Siren told Harry about the features of the Room of Requirement.
Harry's eyes grew brighter and brighter.
"It can transform into a room whatever space I need—doesn't that mean we can study Defense Against the Dark Arts here?"
"That's the second thing I wanted to talk about. Once Hermione and Cedric have discussed it, we can set up the classroom here. But right now—"
Siren waved his hand in front of Harry and said with a smile, "Snap out of it, you should practice Apparition with me."
"Ah, okay—" Harry scratched his head, "But Siren, I bet you know about that too, that Hogwarts forbids Apparition—"
"I know, but this place is special and won't be affected."
As he spoke, Xilun took a deep breath.
With a sound like an explosion, he appeared ten feet in front of Harry next to a Muggle mailbox.
"It really is Apparate," Harry murmured, a hint of envy in his voice.
This magic is so convenient! Once he learns Apparition, he won't need to take the Hogwarts Express anymore; he can go back to visit Sirius anytime.
"Can you teach me?" Harry asked.
"Hmm—" Xiren thought for a moment and said, "I can give it a try."
He discovered something quite embarrassing: his experience of mastering Apparition was somewhat similar to Occlumency.
He learned Apparition through Dumbledore's memories and feelings from his youth, which was as if Dumbledore had simply given him the answer, omitting all the less useful steps in between.
Of course, if you're just using Apparition, the process isn't important, but if you want to teach this magic to someone else, that's a different story.
"It should be fine," Xilun thought to himself.
After all, he had read many related books and even attended a Snape tutoring class, so he had some experience.
"Shall I teach you first, or—"
"No, let me help you first," Harry said, shaking his head. "If you have time later, you can teach me then."
The two quickly reached an agreement.
Harry then pulled his wand from his pocket.
"What am I supposed to do?" he asked.
"Spell me," Siron said.
"Which one?" Harry said. "How about the Disarming Charm? That's my best one."
"No, don't do it skillfully," Xilun quickly said.
Since it was the first time he had interfered with a practice session, Siron didn't think he could use Apparition to dodge Harry's Disarming Charm.
"Use a sneeze spell, or a hair knot spell, whatever is simpler is better."
