......
The sound of glass shattering...
......
"Ugh......"
She slowly sat up and shifted her blurry gaze to the bedroom door.
"Hoo... I finally managed to fall asleep, and now... what's going on?"
Clap!
Another sound...
"Ahhhhh!!!"
......
Her eyes widened suddenly: "That voice... is Miss Undead's mother?"
Sensing something was wrong, Chris rushed out of the room in her slippers without even putting on her coat.
Everything was normal in the living room; the noise was coming from another room, and it seemed there were other sounds besides the scream.
So she went back into the room, picked up her pistol, and cautiously walked toward the source of the sound.
......
"Rhea, hold my foot firmly!"
"Yes! I'm holding on! Mom! Wake up!"
......
Regardless, this conversation at least gave Chris a general idea of what was going on, and she silently tucked the gun behind her back.
Slowly pushing open the door, Chris poked her little head inside.
......
"Someone please save my child...! My child, please save him...!"
Chris stared in disbelief at the old man lying in bed, behaving hysterically.
Gone was her usual kind demeanor; now, the old woman's eyes were filled with fear and trembling, as if someone were about to take away the only thing she cherished.
Chris didn't ask immediately; now didn't seem like a good time.
"What do I do? The blood keeps flowing... Rhea? Rhea?! Wake up! Open your eyes! Mom begs you!"
Leia quickly called out, "Mom, I'm here! I'm right beside you, please wake up...!"
She didn't stop what she was doing. Her mother's sudden and violent reaction caught her off guard, and her already poor sleep quality was completely deprived.
"Ahhhh!! Husband! Husband!"
As she spoke, Rhea suddenly turned her head and noticed Chris, who was peeking at them.
She shouted, "Sergeant, what are you doing out here?! There's nothing to see here, go back to your room!"
"Oh...yes!!"
Chris brushed aside the bangs that were obscuring her vision and quickly disappeared from Rhea's sight.
Even after returning to bed, she couldn't fall asleep; the sight before her and the lingering restlessness made it difficult for her to drift off.
Sigh, really, every family has its own problems...
......
About ten minutes later, the noise stopped and there were no other sounds.
Then, Rhea quietly entered Chris's room, perhaps already guessing that Chris wouldn't be able to fall asleep peacefully.
"Alright, Sergeant, I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier."
Chris shook her head to indicate that it wasn't something to worry about: "Has your mother... calmed down yet?"
"I'm tired from all the commotion, I'm resting now..." She picked up a glass of water and slowly put it in her mouth: "Of course I'm tired after struggling so hard just now."
You could see her exhaustion and helplessness.
In the darkness, Chris sighed: "...Let me make this clear first, I have no intention of watching the show, don't misunderstand."
"I know you're not that kind of person."
......
"Can you please stop saying those mushy things? We've only known each other for a short time."
Chris felt even worse than before.
But Rhea continued, "You could have just run away before, couldn't you? You didn't even need to care about the sheet music. You could have left during the chaos. You had plenty of opportunities."
......
“Sigh, of course…” Chris sat up in bed, propped the cushion next to her against the wall behind her, and leaned against it.
"If I escape, the security bureau will label me a fugitive for the rest of my life, right? That label is much heavier than I imagined."
"For your age, it might be a bit heavy, after all, you are one of the few who were awarded the medal and are still alive."
Leia smiled and drank the warm water again; her expression was slightly better than before.
"You don't seem sleepy right now, do you? How about we invite Angela over, and the three of us can have a drink?"
Chris immediately waved her hand: "I refuse, I don't touch three things: drugs, alcohol, and gambling."
"Pfft..." Rhea couldn't help but exclaim, "Did you grow up in a convent?"
As she said this, Chris glanced out the window, and a rare look of melancholy appeared in her eyes.
“I’ve heard my parents say since I was little that my grandfather squandered his family fortune because of those things, and he didn’t even have money to run away with… although I don’t know if they ever gave him a single penny.”
......
"Then, milk? Bought on the black market, the quality can't be guaranteed..."
......
......
Rhea's eyes suddenly sharpened: "Sergeant, did you hear me?"
“Yes,” she nodded, “the soundproofing is poor. There are several people’s footsteps, and the clanging of guns in their gear…”
......
She instinctively drew her gun: "They seem to be surrounding the house. Are they from the security bureau?"
"If that were the case, they would have broken in already..."
......
"Damn it, it's a load of rubbish!"
Chris jumped out of bed and pushed Rhea out the door.
A grenade smashed through the window and rolled onto the bedroom floor, landing right under the chair where Rhea was sitting.
But Chris reacted faster, safely bringing Rhea out and locking the door.
"Damn, that's fast!"
......
11 “Angela”
The grenade exploded on time, but they had already left safely. Apart from slight tremors and tinnitus, they did not suffer any substantial damage.
"Cough cough..."
The two got up from the ground and quickly put on their equipment and clothes, while Angela ran out of the room.
"Raya, cough cough... what's going on?"
"There's no time to explain now!"
Rhea loaded the magazine, then flipped the table and gently pushed Chris over.
"Sergeant, leave those guys to me. You take my mom and Angela to a safe place!"
But Chris seemed even more anxious: "Where is it safe?! We're being attacked right in the city center!!!"
"To the Security Bureau!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Leia, who had already put on her coat, smashed through the window in front of her and rushed out. Not long after, gunshots and the voices of several strange men could be heard outside.
"That woman who rushed out, kill her!"
Bang bang bang bang bang...
"She... just rushed out like that...?" Chris was stunned for a moment; the other person's behavior was more aggressive than she had imagined.
They could definitely feel the gunshots getting further away, but they couldn't be completely sure if they were safe.
“Sergeant,” Angela said, tossing her long hair with deep concern, “what do we do?”
"Tsk, let's take your aunt and run away first! It's too dangerous to stay here any longer!"
......
......
Honestly, they had to choose the time of the intrusion alarm to launch a sneak attack.
While fleeing, Rhea also fired several shots behind her from time to time, using her knowledge of the terrain and her own combat skills to deal with her opponents. At least ensuring her own safety was not a difficult problem.
But the other party is also quite powerful...
"Given their armed strength, the police would only be a hindrance. Are we going to have to hold out until the defense forces resolve the attack?"
With that thought in mind, she fired several shots, killing several rebels who were about to fire.
The other party came with great force, but she wasn't entirely without the ability to deal with it.
She smiled and said, "Actually, you didn't need to go to such lengths to find me."
Anyway, I'd rather kill as many as I can...
......
Meanwhile, on the other side, Chris, along with Angela and Rhea's mother, escaped safely without encountering any unknown figures along the way. It seemed that the other party's focus was entirely on Rhea.
This is good for both her and Rhea, at least, so that Rhea's mother won't be implicated and she can get away unscathed.
"It's quiet here, and it's quiet there too..."
She kept a close watch on her surroundings, but no suspicious targets appeared.
"Nobody's here, you can come out now."
Angela slowly pushed her wheelchair out of the dark corner, her eyes darting around in fear.
Leia's mother whispered, "Hmm... We have guests, how can the house be left unattended... The gunshots were terrifying, let's go home quickly..."
“Auntie, I’m so sorry, there are a lot of scary people around our house right now,” Angela could only try to reassure her. “So even if you’re scared, please bear with it, okay?”
Angela's sweet voice seemed to have a calming effect. The old man, who usually reacted violently to loud noises, actually remained calm and did not shout.
Although this method isn't always effective...
After checking again, Chris returned to the two men with her gun in hand.
She said in a deep voice, "Angela, do you know how to get to the Security Bureau from here?"
“The Security Bureau…” She looked at the main road to the east: “Getting on the street and catching a ride is the fastest way.”
"Okay, no matter how crazy they are, they can't just come to the National Security Bureau, can they?!"
Chris immediately felt motivated: "I don't know where they'll come from, I'll go and lead the charge."
After saying that, she turned around and prepared to walk towards the main road, although Angela still noticed something was amiss.
"Are you alright? Your hands are shaking really badly..."
