Chapter 15 Prologue
Chapter 15 Prologue
As Liberty Supreme took its first step, its massive body moved across the wasteland, each step accompanied by a heavy tremor, while it continuously played the words that the pre-war government had written to promote the destruction of enemy nations.
Now, these words, along with the weapons they carry, are about to strike the legitimate successor to the pre-war government, an organization called the Enclave.
It seemed as if all the residents of the capital wasteland were watching this place; after all, a twelve-meter-tall robot was bound to attract attention.
The commotion attracted super mutants, mad ghouls, various mutated creatures, and some fearless bandits who came to join the fun.
These are the targets that Huo Yuhao and his team need to strike in order to protect the Freedom Supreme from being disturbed as he advances.
After the operation began, the battle unfolded on the road leading to the Jefferson Memorial. Huo Yuhao fired his anti-material sniper rifle continuously, and together with the others around him, they eliminated those who wanted to get close to the Freedom Supreme.
Of course, during this process, the Enclave did not sit idly by; the enemy soldiers began to block their way.
At this moment, Huo Yuhao had just finished changing his magazine when a group of soldiers wearing Enclave powered armor appeared in the ruins in the distance.
Upon seeing this, he quickly set up his gun and took aim.
The next second, a gunshot rang out, and then a bullet flew straight at the target, hitting the Incremental powered armor's head lens before the target could react.
That area was considered a weak point in the power armor's defenses. To ensure the operator's visibility, heavy metal armor was not used there; instead, it was made of lenses made of some kind of composite material.
After all, in those kinds of places, there's usually only a very small chance of being hit.
However, facing that position, there was the excellent vision provided by the Spirit Eye, the combat experience gained in the wasteland, and the armor-piercing rounds spraying from the muzzle of the anti-material sniper rifle.
The Enclave's power armor on the other side wouldn't offer them much protection.
The next moment, the bullet pierced through the eye and entered the brain. Without a sound, the Enclave powered armor collapsed to the ground.
Upon seeing this, the Enclave soldiers nearby were about to raise their guns to suppress the attack from the direction it was coming from.
But the next second, another gunshot rang out, and then another soldier equipped with that Enclave powered armor fell to the ground in the same way as the previous one.
Then, one, two... the entire Enclave squad was killed in just a few minutes. They lay on the ruins, never putting up any real resistance until their deaths, except for a few random shots before they died.
At that moment, Huo Yuhao pulled the bolt and ejected the spent cartridge.
The paladins standing beside him were dumbfounded; they hadn't expected this outcome.
These paladins knew that even with paladins like themselves fighting, it would be a fierce battle against the Enclave soldiers they had just encountered.
But the person in front of me killed them all in just a few minutes, without the slightest hesitation or mistake.
While the others were still in a daze, Huo Yuhao had already picked up his gun and said to them, "Let's keep pushing."
Upon hearing this, they showed no dissatisfaction but immediately followed Huo Yuhao's lead.
The battle raged on the road to the Jefferson Memorial, with Enclave soldiers holding off the Brotherhood of Steel's advance.
The Liberty Supreme then took out a small nuclear bomb from behind him and threw it like a ball, landing it near the Enclave soldiers. A mushroom cloud rose up, obliterating everything in its path.
Above, Enclave's Flying Bird helicopter appeared, and machine guns began to rain down from above.
However, the laser in the eyes of the Liberty Supreme was fired instantly. The red laser swept across the flying helicopter, and an explosion appeared in the air.
The Enclave's defensive line leading to the Jefferson Memorial was destroyed by the attack of Liberty Supreme.
Meanwhile, members of the Brotherhood of Steel also followed Liberty Supreme's lead.
Huo Yuhao was still firing, his anti-materiel sniper rifle spraying bullets. Each bullet he fired represented the death of an Enclave soldier.
When the front line advanced to the outside of the Jefferson Memorial, the Enclave soldiers fought while holding onto the building, and the Liberty Supreme could not launch an offensive in order to protect the water purification equipment inside.
At the same time, time is not on our side. After all, no one can say for sure whether Enclave will resort to desperate measures and destroy the water purification equipment.
Therefore, the faster the operation, the safer the water purification equipment will be.
Therefore, while the battle was raging on the periphery, Huo Yuhao and his team immediately concentrated and stormed into the area.
In the corridor of the memorial hall, the Enclave soldiers who had just run over were about to turn around and head towards the window.
The next moment, an armor-piercing bullet pierced his brain, and he collapsed to the ground.
At this moment, Huo Yuhao and his group, led by Long Wande, continued to delve deeper into the area where the water purification equipment was located.
Suddenly, a squad of Enclave soldiers rushed out from around a corner and began firing at us.
Seeing this, the group immediately sought cover, while Fox unleashed a furious barrage of fire from his laser machine gun, and the Enclave soldiers also attacked from within.
Under this suppressive firepower, the two sides were temporarily locked in a stalemate.
At that moment, Huo Yuhao fired a shot forward, knocking down a soldier. He then turned to Long Wande and Sarah behind him and said, "You two hurry up and go to the water purification equipment. We two can hold them off here."
Upon hearing this, Long Wande nodded, and Sarah immediately took action.
Upon seeing this, Huo Yuhao immediately joined Fox in attacking the other side.
At this moment, all that could be heard here was the whooshing sound of lasers firing and the sound of bullets leaving the barrel.
But these sounds gradually faded, and with each interval of suppressive fire, a bullet was fired, taking away an Enclave soldier.
The soldiers fighting outside, and the current situation here, are constantly demoralizing the enemy.
The Enclave soldiers began to panic as they realized victory was slipping away and their comrades were being repeatedly headshot. Faced with the precise and cunning attacks of the man before them, their Enclave power armor offered little protection.
As the gunfire ceased, Fox surveyed the fallen soldiers with his weapon in hand.
At this moment, Huo Yuhao aimed his redwood revolver at the Enclave captain who was lying on the ground.
Seeing this, the captain knew the battle was a complete failure. But looking at the equipment of the man in front of him, he recalled the figures he had seen when the Navarro base on the West Coast was breached by forces from New California and the Brotherhood of Steel.
At that time, the captain led the remaining Enclave members all the way to the east coast and found the Enclave forces there.
Even though the Brotherhood of Steel later emerged in the Capital Wasteland, he didn't believe it would become like the West Coast.
But then, that familiar equipment appeared before my eyes once again, as if I had returned to the time when the Navarro base was breached.
He opened the visor on his helmet and looked at the person in front of him.
Then, as if resigned to his fate, he said, "I didn't expect you guys to chase me all the way here."
Upon hearing this, Huo Yuhao didn't really understand what the other person was saying, perhaps because of his own equipment, but he didn't have time to figure it out right now.
Then the boy said, "Then we can end it now."
After saying that, he pulled the trigger, and the bullet went straight into the other man's brain.
The boy turned around and looked around. The ground was littered with fallen power armor, and among them was a corpse.
The fighting along the way had almost made his finger cramp up when he pulled the trigger.
But now was not the time to rest, just as he and Fox were about to go find Long Wand.
Suddenly, a tremendous hum of mechanical operation came from deep within the Jefferson Memorial.
Upon hearing this voice, Huo Yuhao and the others realized that Long Wande had succeeded.
As the two of them hurried toward the location of the water purification equipment, what came into view were the corpses of several Enclave soldiers, Sarah slumped against the wall on the ground, and Long Wand lying alone in the control room.
When Sarah saw us, she immediately told us to get Long Wander out of the control room, as the radiation there had already exceeded the limits that the human body could tolerate.
Upon hearing this, Fox immediately ran inside, because as a super mutant, he was not afraid of radiation.
He then took out a healing needle and injected it into Sarah.
After the treatment needle was injected, Sarah regained some of her energy, while Long Wand, who had been brought out by Fox, remained motionless.
At that moment, I rushed forward to check on him. After hearing that he still had a heartbeat, I quickly injected the radiation-eliminating drug I was carrying into his body.
Then Fox led him away, while he helped Sarah leave the area quickly.
The battle was won, the Brotherhood of Steel seized the Jefferson Memorial from the Enclave, and the water purification system began operating thanks to Long Wand's intervention.
After that, the battlefield was cleared and the wounded were treated.
Two weeks later, Long Wand awoke from his coma, where he had personally killed Colonel Enclave, who had killed his father, and then went to the radiation-filled control room to run the water purification system.
For Long Wande, he fulfilled his father's long-held wish...
Even after the war, things were not completely over; the Enclave still had remnants of bases and troops in the wasteland of the capital.
He didn't leave immediately, but instead joined Long Wande and the others to help the Brotherhood of Steel eliminate the remaining Enclave forces.
During this process, I witnessed firsthand how the Liberty Supreme was blasted into pieces by the Enclave's space-based weapons. I saw firsthand the power of space-based weapons.
At the same time, it was also seen that Adams Air Force Base, where the Incremental remnants were located, was reduced to ruins after the nuclear bomb was detonated.
With its destruction, the Enclave's influence in the capital wasteland also vanished.
After experiencing all of this, I returned with them in a Flying Bird helicopter.
After that, Fox returned to the wasteland, while Long Wande and Dog Meat also figured out where to go.
As for myself, Lyons, an elder of the Brotherhood of Steel, hoped that I could join them, but I refused.
During my time in the wasteland of the capital, I experienced a lot and witnessed the changes here. However, the clues to returning home that I had hoped to find did not appear before my eyes.
Perhaps it was something I had already anticipated, or perhaps I already had the answer in my heart. In any case, I didn't do anything like being sentimental or crying.
The boy unscrewed the cap of his water bottle and placed it into the river in front of him.
When the gurgling sound stopped, he picked up the kettle and took a sip.
The river water wasn't exactly sweet, but it was much better than the radioactive water of the past.
In the past, this was something that residents of the capital's wasteland could hardly obtain, but now it is something that everyone here can easily obtain, and all of this is thanks to the efforts of those people.
As the kettle was tightened, the boy turned and left the capital wasteland, heading east. This time, he felt neither as much expectation nor as much disappointment. He simply walked to the final point marked on the map in his hand.
I asked the Brotherhood of Steel to take me there by Flying Bird helicopter because I wanted to walk there myself, and time didn't seem to be in such a hurry.
As for that motorcycle, it had long since become a pile of junk and was beyond repair.
The sun was rising in the sky, and he was walking eastward.
