Chapter 241 Another New Year
Chapter 241 Another New Year
February 6, 2008, Lunar New Year's Eve.
The car stopped in front of the Fu family villa. Fu Yibai pushed open the door and went inside. The aroma of food wafted through the living room.
Li Hui came out of the kitchen wearing an apron and holding a spatula. When she saw him, her face lit up with a smile.
"You're back?"
"mom."
Fu Yibai walked over and gave him a hug.
"You've lost weight."
Li Hui looked him over and frowned.
"You've lost weight again. Are you not eating properly when you're out?"
"I've eaten. Don't worry about it."
Fu Yibai changed into slippers and walked into the living room.
Fu Jianlin was sitting on the sofa with a newspaper in his hand. When he saw him come in, he put the newspaper down.
"You're back?"
"dad."
"Um."
Fu Jianlin nodded, his gaze lingering on the man's face for a moment before he picked up the newspaper again.
"Your mom has been talking about you for days."
Fu Yibai chuckled and sat down on the sofa.
"The company is busy."
"Take care of your health even when you're busy."
Fu Jianlin put down his newspaper and looked at him.
I watched "Gravity".
Well shot.
"Thank you, Dad."
"No need to thank me."
I'm telling the truth.
Fu Jianlin paused for a moment.
"No one in China has ever achieved a box office of one billion yuan."
You did it, and I'm proud of you.
Li Hui peeked out from the kitchen.
"You two stop chatting and come eat."
The New Year's Eve dinner was very lavish.
Eight dishes and one soup, including chicken, duck, fish and meat.
The three people sat down at the dining table, the Spring Festival Gala was playing on TV, and the host was cheerfully saying auspicious words.
Li Hui picked up a piece of fish for Fu Yibai.
"Eat more, you definitely won't eat well outside."
"Mom, I'm eating well."
"What's so good about it? Look how thin you've gotten."
Fu Yibai didn't argue anymore and lowered his head to eat.
Fu Jianlin held his wine glass, took a sip, and looked at him.
"Yi Bai, what are your plans for next year?"
"I'm going to Los Angeles for a while, then I'll come back and shoot a new movie."
"Still making a movie?"
"Um."
Fu Jianlin nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
Li Hui chimed in from the side.
"Yibai, you're not getting any younger. Do you know any suitable girls? I don't care if they're from similar social classes, as long as they're good people."
Fu Yibai paused for a moment with his chopsticks.
"Mom, there's no rush."
"Why aren't you in a hurry? You're already twenty-nine."
"Twenty-eight."
"Twenty-eight is not young anymore."
Fu Yibai didn't reply and lowered his head to eat his rice.
Fu Jianlin coughed beside him.
"Alright, let him worry about the child himself. Why are you meddling?"
Li Hui glared at him.
"How am I meddling? I'm just showing concern."
"It's fine to show concern, but don't put pressure on your child."
Li Hui opened her mouth as if to say something, but swallowed it back in the end, and then put another piece of pork rib on Fu Yibai's plate.
"Okay, Mom won't rush you. Just keep it in mind."
Fu Yibai nodded.
"Um."
After finishing their New Year's Eve dinner, the three of them sat on the sofa and watched the Spring Festival Gala.
Li Hui leaned back on the sofa, knitting a sweater in her hands, glancing at the TV every now and then.
Fu Jianlin held his teacup, his gaze fixed on the screen, his face expressionless.
Fu Yibai sat next to him, his phone vibrating incessantly.
He replied to each message one by one, and then locked the screen.
Firecrackers crackled and popped outside the window, and a countdown began on the television.
"Ten, nine, eight..."
Li Hui put down her sweater and watched TV.
Fu Jianlin also put down his teacup and sat up straight.
"Three, two, one!"
Happy Chinese New Year!
The firecrackers went off louder, and the melody of "Unforgettable Tonight" played on the television.
Fu Yibai stayed at home for three days.
Every day consists of eating, sleeping, and chatting with my parents.
Fu Jianlin was a man of few words, but Li Hui cooked different dishes for him every day, afraid that he would go hungry.
On the morning of the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, Fu Yibai packed his things and prepared to leave home.
Li Hui stood beside him, watching him pack up, her eyes reddening again.
"Leaving so soon?"
"Yes, I still have work to do at the company."
I'll come back to see you all when I have some free time.
"OK."
Li Hui nodded and stuffed a bag into his bag.
"Here's your favorite sausage, take it with you."
"Mom, I can buy it myself."
"What you buy outside doesn't taste as good as what you make at home."
Fu Yibai didn't refuse anymore. He zipped up his bag, turned around, and hugged Li Hui.
"Mom, I'm leaving."
"Be careful on the road."
"Um."
Fu Jianlin stood in the living room, holding a newspaper, looking at him.
"Dad, I'm leaving."
"Okay. Take care of yourself."
"understood."
Fu Yibai picked up his bag and walked out the door.
As he started the car, he saw Li Hui standing at the door, still looking at him, in the rearview mirror.
He honked the horn once and then drove out of the residential area.
On February 10, "Gravity" officially ended its theatrical run.
The final box office figure was 10.15 billion.
For the first time, a domestic film has surpassed the 1 billion yuan mark.

The Douban rating eventually stabilized at 8.9, with over half a million reviews.
