Chapter 100 Veteran and Apprentice (Fourth update, seeking first subscription)
Hearing Ollie's exclamation, Emily had already flown upwards, and Roland also put down the scattered parts of the T-800 and followed in a few strides.
On the flat ground at the top of the slope, the wind whipped up sand and dust as it howled past.
Seven or eight small, wrinkled, dark green goblins were huddled together.
They lay among the scattered wreckage of T-800 parts, clutching rusty daggers or sharp stones, frantically digging at the metal components. Occasionally, they would push and shove at each other to grab a gleaming gear.
Because of Ollie's exclamation, a goblin standing guard on the perimeter immediately stopped gnawing on the metal pipe, and its yellowish-brown eyes spotted Luo Lan and the others emerging from the top of the slope.
"Garashiga!"
The goblin let out a sharp, piercing scream.
The chattering sounds seemed to be signals between goblins.
From the shadows cast by the piled-up rocks in the distance, a dozen or so short, ugly green figures emerged one after another.
These goblins surged out and quickly gathered in a group in the center of the flat ground.
They instinctively spread out to both sides, crowding around the goblin squad leader in the middle, who was slightly larger, wearing an animal skin cloak, and had dark yellowish-brown skin.
Looking at Luo Lan and the others, the tan goblin squad leader's eyes darted around, then he brandished a heavy, rough-handled wooden weapon and let out a long, hoarse, and indistinct roar: "Gururu wawa, kachaka!"
At this command, all the goblins raised their various weapons, including rough wooden clubs stripped of their skin.
A stone hammer bound with stones, a rusty, chipped dagger, a simply sharpened spear —
The goblins fixed their hostile and greedy gazes on Luo Lan and his group on this side of the slope.
Looking at this group of small, ugly creatures huddled together, the azure blue in Luo Lan's right eye quickly faded, and a scarlet vertical pupil quietly appeared.
Prepare to unleash a single [Intimidation] attack to wipe them all out.
Rom, however, reached out first and blocked Rolan's path.
The seasoned warrior stared at the group of goblins ahead, his eyes filled with ruthlessness: "Brother Luo Lan, you and Emily, don't make a move yet. Let me and Ollie go up and test it out first. This brat has been training with me in the village for ages, but he's never seen real blood—"
Upon hearing this, the crimson in Luo Lan's eyes faded, replaced by a deep blue, as she silently scanned the area ahead.
In the vision feedback from [True Sight], the large group of green-skinned monsters in front of me were all [Black Iron Tier] trash on the panel.
The only difference was that the tan goblin wielding the large wooden mallet had a barely visible [Bronze Rank] badge on his head.
In Luo Lan's view, this group of goblins was no different from the pack of demonic wolves in the dungeon's rift, something that could be easily wiped out.
Even if you let them attack you, they might not be able to break through your heavy armor.
Luo Lan took a half step back and said calmly, "Well, then you two go first. But you two should also be careful. Although they are all low-level monsters, their large numbers and clustered together could be dangerous."
Seeing this, Rom didn't waste any more words.
He raised his heavy iron sword and delivered a powerful slash, smashing it into the giant rock beside him with a deafening clang.
Having attracted the attention of all the goblins on the other side, Rom charged out like a white-haired lion: "Ori! Keep up the pace!"
Once this veteran of the [Gold-] rank enters real combat, his calm aura instantly becomes extremely aggressive.
He stood alone at the forefront, wielding his broad iron sword like a windmill.
There are no fancy elemental enchantments, only the purest and most deadly basic greatsword skills.
A green goblin, brandishing a wooden club, lunged at them with a screech.
Without even looking, Rom flicked his wrist, using the spine of the iron sword to knock the wooden stick aside, and then smoothly flicked the blade.
A deep, bone-revealing gash exploded in the goblin's chest, and it flew backward with a scream.
Amidst the flashing sword light, severed limbs and broken arms flew everywhere.
Rom stood like an iron barrier, withstanding the fierce onslaught of a dozen or so goblins from the front.
However, Rom cannot wipe out the goblin horde in a short period of time.
During lulls in the chaos of battle, Rom would occasionally slow down his pace by half a beat, using the edge of his sword hilt to deliberately place the goblins he had crippled or who had been terrified behind him.
"One missed on the left!"
Rom yelled at Ollie to remind him.
As Rom said, although Ollie had trained with him and developed a physical physique of [Iron+], he had never actually seen blood.
Ollie, who was waiting behind, was already covered in sweat.
A goblin, stabbed in the abdomen and howling wildly, stumbled and pounced on Ollie.
"Hey!"
Ollie let out a shout to bolster his courage, thrusting out his short sword. His trembling wrist swerved, and the first strike hit the goblin's bone spike club, almost slipping from his grasp. Only the second strike managed to cut into his side ribs.
The goblin fell, its blood splattering onto Ollie.
The boy stood there, staring at his blood-stained hands, and paused for a moment before Rom released another wounded goblin.
They clashed again.
The boy's movements were still somewhat clumsy, but he was definitely fighting, and his rhythm gradually improved.
Outside, Emily, with nothing to do, lay sprawled on Ah Mao's back, enthusiastically waving two blades of grass like a cheerleader, cheering for Ollie: "Left, left! Watch out! It dropped its weapon, chop it down—another ugly monster is coming from the right!"
The situation on the battlefield seemed to be entirely under Rom's control.
Although Ollie's movements were clumsy and full of flaws, with Rom's nanny-like guidance, he was able to take on one lone or low-health goblin after another.
With each swing, more blood stained the blade.
The inexperienced young apprentice warriors are growing rapidly.
However, the turning point in a battle often occurs at an unexpected moment.
The bronze-rank, brownish-yellow goblin squad leader, who had been hiding behind the goblin horde, stared intently at Rom, who was wreaking havoc in front of him, and Ollie, who was clumsily moving behind him.
It seemed that in this brief exchange, it keenly sensed that the veteran was deliberately creating opportunities for his apprentice behind him.
"Guga—Sizzle!!!"
The goblin squad leader suddenly let out a series of extremely penetrating howls.
As soon as the command, which only goblins could understand, was given, the four goblins closest to Rom immediately threw away their crude weapons.
They screamed and, with an unusually fierce ferocity, crashed into Rom's sweeping sword.
"Pfft!"
The sound of a sharp blade slicing through flesh rang out one after another.
The goblin at the very front had half its neck severed, and its foul-smelling blood sprayed in a fan shape onto Rom's old leather armor.
The other three goblins stepped over their companion's corpse and swarmed forward.
Taking advantage of their small size, they pounced from all directions, several pairs of filthy green hands tightly gripping Rom's waist armor and thighs.
The goblins' sudden, suicidal charge abruptly halted Rom's previously fluid sword-wielding movements.
And taking advantage of the moment when Rom was delayed.
The tan-colored goblin squad leader, displaying the agility of a bronze-rank monster, leaped into the air, stepping on the backs of several charging green goblins.
He raised the large wooden mallet in his hand and smashed it down on the unsuspecting novice, Ollie, right behind him.
At this moment, Ollie was still completely immersed in the rhythm of his "first battle".
With his body turned to the side and his center of gravity leaning forward, the short sword in his hand had just plunged into the chest of a green goblin that was barely clinging to life.
The boy was completely unaware of the deadly threat emanating from behind him!
"Ori! Behind you! Get out of the way—!"
Rom only had time to let out a hoarse, even cracking, roar.
"What?"
Oli turned around in surprise and saw a huge wooden mallet, growing larger and larger, hurtling towards him.
